Insurance

Hi,

Been reading the forum's for a while now but this is the first post, so I hope it's in the right tread?

I'm hoping to leave for south America at the end of this year, the thing is my renewal with BMW is up in October. if I don't leave until after the renewal date can I buyt insuranc that covers my bike for being at home,a nd shipping and then being in south america in one policy?

Just trying to keep my cost's to a minimum - any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

The short answer is no. You can buy damage and theft insurance to cover you for your trip, but probably not valid in the UK. You will have to get third party liability (but can mostly get away without it) in or at the border of each country you visit.

Shipping insurance will have to be provided by your shipping company.

While you are away it may be best to keep the cheapest possible policy going here in the UK - or you may well lose any no claims bonus you have built up. I didn't do it and wish I had, would have saved me money in the long run.

hope this helps.
