how many mirrors?

this is a 2 part question,
1- in europe, do i need to have both mirrors on my bike or will just one suffice?
2- do you think you really need both mirrors? i seem to be getting on fine with only the right one.

bit of explanation... i'm on a f650gs, my left mirror sticks out at a odd angle when i've got the clutch set up the way i like it, its hooks over my hand and sort of feels wrong. so i took it off. wondering if i should reattach it if i'm going back into mainland europe long term.

I don't know about the legal requirements - it probably varies from country to country, but from a riding perspective one mirror on the right - the near side over there, isn't ideal. You'll have a substantial blind spot where you get in the way and any car behind you will block your view of the road.

You can live with it (I only have a right side mirror on one of my bikes and no one's ever stopped me - in France anyway) but every time I use that bike I swear I must get another one on the left

crap yeh, diddnt think of that, in the land of europe the left is the more important, i'd say. looks like i'm going to have to do some adjusting
what about no mirrors? is that an option? just out of curiosity now...

I am pretty sure your vehicle has to be legal in country of origin, with mirrors in the UK that means if it was first registered in or after 1986 it should have two, before only one. Either way if you are planning travelling in mainland Europe a left hand mirror would come in useful.

I have toured Europe for 20+ years with only one mirror , no problem at all .
I do move it over to the left side at the port while waiting for the ferry , it has become a bit of a ritual at the start of every tour . Sad putting back to right side on return ferry though !

Pure aethetics demand that symetry is maintained, so two it is. Yes , have got a Harley.:mchappy:

My preference is 2. If I break one then I've got some redundancy.

No mirror is not a safe option.

Live with the problem, and fit the extra mirrow. In my eye's the more you can see the safer you are.
