General question on where to buy a bike

I have been in South America for the last 2 1/2 years traveling to different countries. During that time I ve bike shopped and compared prices between whats available here and whats available in the US. I have not purchased a bike because I ve been pretty shocked at the difference between US bike prices and the prices for pretty much the same bike in any country here.

I also have looked at the various ways of buying bikes or having bikes here- and have read about problems experienced by some crossing borders most notably between Chile and Argentina with bikes titled in either country- and some restrictions on taking a Peruvian titled bike out of country without proof of residency status. Given all of this I am just about of the opinion that it might be more economical and easier-to come back to the US, buy a bike, title it there in my home state and and ride down here.....

That having been said I also am considering other parts of the world- question is if one decided to go to Europe, buy a used bike there and travel, where would be the place to find best prices on used and-- less hassle than apparently can be found buying a used bike in a South American country (yep I know it varies depending on where and yep I ve read a bunch of threads here on HUBB- and thanks to those posting that great information) but I ve not seen anything on Europe to any extent. If any one can point out where I have missed a thread on this- like the numerous threads on HUBB about South America- I would appreciate it- or any recommendations on where to buy.

I can't help with your South America question but for buying in Europe Ireland seems to be the best option and getting this chaps help a popular and reputable choice.
