fly home from Iran for a week? Motorbike stays? possible?

Hi,
I plan to travel from Austria via Turkey to Iran.

In September I want to fly home for a week, because I have an important meeting.

Can I leave the motorbike in Iran for a week?
Is that an offense of the carnet?
The officers at the border will see, that I leave the country without the motorbike. they might think, that I have sold it.

German carnet-institut ADAC told me it is not possible to leave the country without bike. I must park it at a custom-garage and pay a lot of money every day.

Do I really get a stamp in my passport, that says, that I entered with a motorbike or are all stamps only in the carnet?

every advice welcome!

thanks!

The ADAC is absolutely correct of course; you are technically not allowed to leave a carnet-requirement country without your vehicle having temporarily parked it in an undesignated/unapproved place. BUT plenty of travellers do and get away with it.

My question to you, however, concerns visa conditions: Does your Iranian visa permit multiple entries? If it permits one entry only, then it will be 'spent' after your first entry into Iran.

With this in mind, can you get a second Iranian visa in quick succession for your second visit following the week back home?

To answer the other part of your question: so far we haven't had stamps in our passports for the vehicle, though the Kazakh visa did have the registration plate number included on issue, but nothing ever stamped as such.
But we haven't been to Iran yet, so they might be different.
If you have return flight tickets for your trip home that might appease the officials in some way as they will see you are only away for a short time.

Lois Pryce left her bike in Iran after her first trip there, returning recently to continue her travels. I assume she'll have a blog or somesuch which might enlighten you...
Safe travels,
Simon.

Hi,
thanks to you all.

To Keith 1954: ADAC is only right regarding IRAN.
For South Africa for example, you get a one-year-carnet for the bike. What you do in that year does not matter at all. You can go to South AFrica for some days, go back to europe for 11months, and go back again to S.A.

To post Nr. 2:
I can´t see the name of the second post:
I would like to apply for a double-entry-visa.
I checked my passport from last year. In general there are different stamps. if you enter as a person, you get a person-stamp. If you enter with a vehicle, no matter wich one, you get a vehicle-stamp. There is a small car in the circle of the stamp. once I went to russia from Riga by bus. so I got a stamp with a bus-sign.

To post Nr.3:
do you have a link to that blog? I will search for it anyway.

thanks a lot!

Thanks, Keith!

...I am not so familiar with that forum here. I hope, i will find his name.
I find it already difficult to post a question in the right category. It will improve. smile!

Meeting this question several times each month so I guess will be better to explain here in details as a general information for all.

This information is valid for turkey and iran together.

Officially you can not leave the country without your vehicle..
In Turkey your bike is stamped on your passport page, in Iran on the carnet and forms you will fill..

Let me explain how they do it in irregular and unlegal ways.

Land, sea, air bordergates are not connected to each other with online computer program system so ins and outs in each bordergate are checked once in every six month period....Seems this makes it possible to leave the country in the other way than you enter..

Those who have done it, enter the country by land bordergate on vehicle, park at a safe place, leave the country by air,fly back again, then leave the country by vehicle via another land bordergate..

But after the checking time, fines will be on number plate and country which you will get by your ministry later (generally it takes 2-3 years) and you will be unable to enter again without paying your fines..

In turkey, payment of fines during your following entrance is ok to enter again and the only problem step you will meet but in iran you will be also questioned together with the local who keeps it.....

If you must leave Turkey without your vehicle for a while, you must fill an application form, apply a customs management,(available in all cities)park the vehicle at a place that they will tell you and get a written permission.

It will be valid for 1 month and you will have to extend it before the time expires.

For Iran, didnt hear anyone has done it in official ways since so many years, but also heard some friends have done in irregular ways. Also must be multiple visa..

So I always recommend to leave their bikes in greece or bulgaria and currently several friends here doing it in the same legal way...

Hi Mehmet,
thanks a lot for your answers. That sounds professional and from first hand!

I just write, what I did not understand:
1.)
Those who have done it, enter the country by land bordergate on vehicle, park at a safe place, leave the country by air,fly back again, then leave the country by vehicle via another land bordergate..

Lets say, I enter Turkey to Iran by land at bordercrossing "A". Then I park the motorbike in Iran, fly out from point "B", lets say Teheran, they I will fly back to Teheran. Finally I go back to turkey by bike by land. Do I have to use a bordercrossing "C", or can I take "A" again?

If you say "via another land bordergate", I did not understand, if it must be different from the one I came in ("C" would be different than "A"). or do you mean, that the land bordergate must be different than the one, where I flew out ("A" is different than "B").

2.)
But after the checking time, fines will be on number plate and country which you will get by your ministry later (generally it takes 2-3 years) and you will be unable to enter again without paying your fines..

Does that mean, that I will get the fine in any case, or just when they find that mistake. How big is the probability, that I have to pay the fine? 100% or 0,1%?
How much is that fine? Is it like 100euro as a fine, or do they charge 3000euro like the offense/deposit of carnet?

3.)
In turkey, payment of fines during your following entrance is ok to enter again and the only problem step you will meet but in iran you will be also questioned together with the local who keeps it.....

What do you mean with keeps "it"?
Keeps what?
Do you mean, I have to go to a police interview and they will personally keep my fine? is it like a corruption/bride interview?

4.)
If you must leave Turkey without your vehicle for a while, you must fill an application form, apply a customs management,(available in all cities)park the vehicle at a place that they will tell you and get a written permission

Do you know, how much that costs?
if that doesnt cost so much and if that is legal, that sounds like a clean solution.

5.)
So I always recommend to leave their bikes in greece or bulgaria and currently several friends here doing it in the same legal way..

My plan was, to travel through Iran. The weekend I have to go home is kind of in the middle of the journey. If I have to escape to Greece, I am almost home. That would be 4000km one way from the point, where i would like to leave from iran.

I thought, flying from the very east of turkey would make sense for me. So I can hurry from Iran to east-turkey, what is just 1500km!

thanks again, if you can help me again!

Merhaba,
first of all sorry for my english level..That is what I ve learned between 1966-72 and this old bloke has no developments since then..

Will try to give answer under each question..

ANSWER...: you can take a again.your entrance-exit bordergates must be different with say escape bordergates by flight...

2.)
But after the checking time, fines will be on number plate and country which you will get by your ministry later (generally it takes 2-3 years) and you will be unable to enter again without paying your fines..

How much is that fine? Is it like 100euro as a fine, or do they charge 3000euro like the offense/deposit of carnet?

ANSWER..: Cant say anything for the percentage of the risk.the fine for turkey is 1/4 of all the taxes that must be paid if you import similar vehicle to turkey, plus 360 TL. for 2014.. according to law 4458.

4458 sayılı Gümrük Kanunun 238.maddesi uyarınca aracın gümrük vergileri tutarının ¼ (dörtte biri) oranında para cezası
4458 sayılı Gümrük Kanunun 241/5-b maddesi uyarınca; 360(üçyüzaltmış)

For Iran,pandoras box.noone knows anything.

3.)

What do you mean with keeps "it"?
Keeps what?
Do you mean, I have to go to a police interview and they will personally keep my fine? is it like a corruption/bride interview?

ANSWER...:In Iran the owner of the garage or garden where you ve parked your vehicle will also be questioned..

ANSWER..:In İstanbul it is 7 dolars perday, trabzon 5 dolars per day..Dont know other cities..In small cities, customs dont have customs parking areas so vehicles are forwarded to private parking lots which have agreements with government.

Hope this time all ok.

All the best.
