Does your bike have a name ?

I know a few people who name their bikes but I never bother.

My mates bike is called Sea biscuit and I know someone who calls her Dommie "Dorethy" :cool4:

Do your trusty steeds have pet names ??

Dakota 7 Jun 2007 20:09

Doris, Boris, Tricky & Landy

Doris is my XT, Boris is the hubbys XT, Tricky is my Yamaha Tricker and Landy is the 110.

Bernard 7 Jun 2007 21:13

The Tenere is called The Tenere
The Harley is called The Harley
The Suzuki is called The Suzuki
The other Suzuki is called The Other Suzuki
The other Yamaha is called Aunty Agnes ( only joking. It's called The Other Yamaha)
It's a really neat system
I never get them confused

Brian Williams 7 Jun 2007 21:45

varies from "you lovely thing" when its running sweet, to "you **********" when its being tempramental

Shells 7 Jun 2007 23:25

Dorothy the Dommie

She is indeed :)

Follow the yellow brick road.

Dorothy's a good girl.
'Damn it Dozza!' when she's being bad... and other things that don't really become her. ;) But mostly, it turns out to be my bad, and she was behaving all along. Doh!

Dodger 7 Jun 2007 23:31

All my bikes are called Lola .
[named after the Marlene Dietrich film character - "what Lola wants - Lola gets !]

Baby 2-...

I think my bike has moved into the "Baby 2" title. My guitars have moved respectively to baby 3, baby 4 etc. I dont name things I own but when you are always talking to them, you have to call them something!
Baby1 is reserved for my girlfriend because i like and need my balls!

Bike Names

My R80RT is known as Heidi and the R1200GS is Brunhilde. Gotta give them German names.

muthaf9cka 8 Jun 2007 14:21

My girlfriend calls it my other babyzinho. I call it my bike.

chris 8 Jun 2007 15:09

On my RTW on a 1989 BMW R100gs the bike had several names:
  1. At the start: "Helga", German and functional
  2. Then: "Wife" (as in BMW=BeMyWife, told to me by a Ethiopian policeman)
  3. Then "Ex-wife" (when bits started falling off)
  4. Then: "Goaty" (as in the "old goat": we developed a rider/ridee relationship: I promised not to fall off and it promised not to break down any more.)
  5. And finally: "The Fat Lady". When she finally broke. My trip was over. She sang...
I have other bikes now:
  • "Doris": a Suzuki DRZ400s
  • "Deirdre": a Suzuki DRZ400e
  • "Frankie/Moosie/Tannie", as in Franenstein/it looks like a moose/it is an ancient "remodelled" Honda Transalp
  • "Spare Bike": an old klr250
  • "Trevoretta" (Trevor, because it's a British name and etta on the end because it has to be female): a newish Triumph Thunderbird Sport road bike

Nigel Marx 10 Jun 2007 05:22

Pretty much all my vehicles have names; will otherwise they would only be machines, right? Mostly the name fits in some way.
Main rider F650GS = Daisy (the front mudguard looks very ducky)
F650 Funduro = Bronny (short for Bronhilda)
K100LT = Hilda (short for Kremhilda, Bronhilda cousin in the Rhein fables)
TS185 = Eliot (as in T.S Eliot.... oh well)
Other TS185 = George (as in George Elliot.... oh well again)
2 x A50 Suzukis = Mini and Flitzer (German for Streaker)
RG50 = Bargie (as in Argie (RG) Bargie)
VF750 Honda = Rhonda the Honda
RV90 Suzuki = Harvey the RV
CB500 Honda Classic racebike = The Fat Girl
T500 Suzuki = Mr CC
FT500 Honda = Hefty
T125 Suzuki Stinger = Buzz

With the cars,
Honda Accords are Zeke and Rosa (would take too long to explain)
1971 Rover P6B = RH (in honour of my grandfather who owned a Rover 90 forever and was always known as RH)
1953 Wolseley 6/80 = Bertie ( as in Burllington Bertie who rose at 10.30 as it doesn't like to start on cold mornings)

And I won't even get started on the vehicles I used to own!!!

Regards

Nigel in NZ

Lucy, Spok and the Yam!!!

My '79 Police R80/7 was named 'Lucky' by its previous owner. I never thought it was a good idea to call any vehicle Lucky but then, it was never particularly lucky to re-name something either ! ( I'm thinking Marie Celeste!!)
So...( Creative logic required here!) Since a proper Beamer can only be a R or a K, I decided to drop the K from the R ( If you follow!) and call her LUCY!
This was made all the easier because my favorite granny was called Lucy.

My Vulcan commuter is called...yep!....Spok.

My Yamaha Fazer 600 is called......... The Yam.

So there we have it...My happy family..Lucy, Spok and the Yam.

Happy biking.

Ian.

My red KLR is called Rosa because I have kissed a girl called Rosa on the trip and had another girl called Rosa ask to marry me (who I didn´t kiss)

My Rosa is far more reliable and sticks to a tight budget even if a little less affectionate.

...but I would recommend not kissing this Rosa; at least not in public. ("What you do in the privacy of your own home....")

I recently bought somebodys progect bike because no one else would bid on it, ebay you know. It's a 78 XT 500 Yamaha fitted up with modern supension [upside down forks , single shock ] from an ATK. It's really kind of cool , and a name came to mind right away it's FUGLY.

bikerfromsark 13 Jun 2007 21:53

When people are about its "my dirt bike and my sports bike". wWhen by ourselfs the Yamaha is called Betty, I wanted something trusty sounding, also it is't the prettyest name which suits my TT600RE right to the ground! When she is really really good 'Rosie' after an amazing girl I met once. However My Ninja: 'yeeeeeehhaaaaa' selfexplanitory I think!

petefromberkeley 27 Jun 2007 18:28

Well, lets see. My Yamaha XT 500 has a faux finish that makes it look like it is made of wood, so it's "the woody". My DT 250 is my only two stroke, so it's the two stroke. The Triumph is the Triumph. Technically the BMW that I rode around the world is " Miss Adventure" but I always call it the BMW.

My car is a '63 Falcon. Just called the Falcon.

Matron 28 Jun 2007 08:09

BMW R1100GS.... Greg
Yamaha XT225 Serow ... Mr. Whippy
Ducati 916SPs ...Gina

think i'll leave it there for now

The Red Baron

My rock red GS1200 is The Red Baron but usualy referred to as "the bike" as in, "I am going out on the bike, later."

seanh 17 Jul 2007 11:08

'El Burroquito' (The Little Donkey) - my trusty BMW R65 monoshock

Bossies 17 Jul 2007 11:22

Well for a while it remained sexless and was referred to as The Bike. Then it's temprement indicated it was an yobbish arrogant annoying He. It then had it's clutch replaced and then now recently it died and had a new engine put in. It also has very little original parts; pretty much only the frame and the front wheel...so after being put back together again I have setted on Humpty...and when I am once again annoyed with him then it will be DUMPTY!!!

"Men think of cars as a part of themselves"

Although it is about cars I thought this loked vaguely relevant to the discussion. I certainly tend to feel that my bike is a part of me, and if I don't feel that way, ther is something wrong.

Men love cars 'because they're part of them' | Uk News | News | Telegraph

My Honda Pan European is "the Pan".
My Ducati 900ss was "the project" until I admitted I'd never find the time or the money to restore it, and now it's "why did I ever sell the project?"

Caminando 18 Jul 2007 09:39

Yes it's that dangly part - vehicles act as phallic symbols.

Timferret 27 Jul 2007 19:06

Time for bed..... Boing!

Most of the vehicles I've ever owned have been named after characters from the Magic Roundabout. My first car was called Florence, my VW camper was called Ermintrude, the only exception to that was the VFR I've just got rid of, my girlfriend named it Zippy................
Picking up my new Wee Strom tomorrow(Yay!) and its already been named Dylan ( Hippy rabbit or nasal folk genius......... you decide.)
