I've seen lots of threads about financing trips but none about dealing with family comitments , is aged parents as and / or dependent adult offspring.

How have other people dealt with these responsibilities?

Dependent adult offspring - are they disabled in some way? If not the dependency is in your own mind. Tell them to bugger off.

Aged parents - no way round that one - do the right thing and go when they die or put in paid care and accept when you leave you may never see them again.
