Catalytic convertor / unleaded fuel

Is unleaded fuel easy to get in Turkey, Iran,Pakistan,India, Nepal,Thailand,Laos, Cambodia? (my planned route from Germany). I have an R1150GS with a catalytic convertor on it and want to know if I should remove it.

My understanding is:

If you have to use leaded fuel, this will damage your cat on your exhaust.

Cheers

Leaded fuel will, slowely, damage your converter. Becourse of that the mixture of fume's will change and the bike's electronic injection will try to correct this by changing the mixture and ignition-timing. Ofcourse this will not function and fuel-consumption will grow and performance will go down.
This does not happen when you get leaded fuel once or twice, but going into Asia it might be wise to remove the converter.

When are your going?

Ditch the CAT...
Sebring do a nice (cheap-ish) y-piece that fits with the existing silencer (Touratech). Less weight, nicer sound, no cat & no worries. Just slots straight in.
Or Remus, & I think Lazer, do a full exhaust.

Have fun! Hedge

Thanks for your responses everyone. I will be removing the Cat. Maarten, I hope to leave in September.

Well, I'll see you on the road then. I'll leave in august... same direction.

Maarten
