cash money in Iran. no credit card works
Hi,
anyone knoww, where to hide cash money while riding in Iran? I heard, that you can´t withdrawl cash from cash-machines. So its best to have euros or dollars with you? As I will travel before in east-europe and turkey, I will not have the chance to get euros on my way. And I dont want to carry all the cash money in euros for a 2 months trip through all east europe. Last euro country before iran would be Greece. but if I need maybe 1200euros, I had to stay 3 days in greece as my cash limit is 400€/day. Anyone has bee to Iran and has adviced how to solve the money issue? thanks achim |
plenty of potential hiding places... in your handlebars, behind the battery, in the airbox, in your rear light, waterproof bag in the fuel tank, make a secret compartment in the bottom of your panniers, under your seat fabric, down your bra, in your sleeping bag.. use your imagination, and make sure that all of it is not in one place- don't have all your eggs in one basket so they say...
I took $1500 into Iran, and only spent $300 in 3 weeks, but best to take as much in as possible in case anything goes wrong... |
Some (not a lot, normally carpenters) shops in Iran are also having card terminals. It was said to me, that it is possible to use your mastercard or visa credit card with that machine for withdrawal in rials, of course with some provision.
Don't know the details, they were talking about some connections with Emirates and Abu-Dhabi servers. Ask locals for, if needed. Everything is possible, if you know right people. But, I'd rather stick to Fern's advice. Hide your money in several places, and use upper option only in emergency. BW Nejc |
One of the places I hide my money in when travelling is a belt with an inside zip that runs all along its length (the zip remains on the side of your trousers).
Money are completely invisible, in that case. Bought it on Ebay for about Euro 9.00 three years ago. As for the rest I'd also stick to Fern's suggestions (Hello, Fern!! :cool4:). |
why not get some gold? sounds silly but a 1g or 2g bar is tiny and can be hidden very easily and can be converted to local currency in lots of places!
1g = £24.50 = $41.17 = euro 30.05 Gold is excepted everywhere as it as intrinsic value! I wouldn't have much in this manner but definitely some. Gold is also independent of politics too. |
Thanks for the ideas - it will be useful when I'm in Iran next year :thumbup1:
