I do appreciate all of the answers, however, the thread is not about finding 16" tires. They are available everywhere, I repeat, no problem of supply. The discussion I wanted to start was about carrying tires to save money was worth considering. This applies to all sizes that would be much cheaper in ones home country than abroad. I think the answer is no, but I will still get heart palpitations paying $200 for a tire.

See my post #5 on page one here. Pretty much covers all the bases on the yeas or neas regards carrying tires, economics of same.

TIP: outside big cities 16" tires may be rare. Maybe tires for 125's and 250's? .. but not much else. Small shops in small towns just can't afford to stock very expensive tires. But most shops can ORDER a tire from D.F. or Guadalajara. Bus transport is GREAT in Mexico, pretty fast service.

I'm hoping the ones I have make it at least to Northern Chile.
