Buying and Selling in the US for UK Citizen
 

I am starting my RTW tour on an XT600, my preferred choice for Africa and South America. Light, robust and simple.

For the USA, Canada, NZ, Australia and Asia I would like an F800GS. I will probably rent a home in Florida for 3-4 months.

Is it easy to sell in the US ? Would it be best to sell in Mexico ?

Can I buy a F800GS in the USA ? Any problems with taking it out of the country ?

Will it be easy to change the bike on my Carnet, unsure if UK based Carnets allow a US registered bike ?

You don't need a Carnet for the Americas.

It MIGHT be possible to sell it to someone from the UK in the US but failing that, I suspect you'd have to register it in the US if you wanted to sell to a US citizen. I'd guess you'd also need an address in the US in order to register a bike that you bought there.

The carnet stuff is on the left side bar -
USA rego bike = carnet from Canada... buit as MikeS said .. no carnet required for the Americas..

You cannot change the bike on the carnet! You have to end that carnet and get another one for the next bike... $$$ ... engine changes are also a real paperwork problem! Best if you change over the bits and keep the old numbers...


If you buy a bike in USA easiest to sell it there. And you'd probably get a better price.
