Any ideas for very cheap vehicle storage, France area
Hello All
I'm coming to the end of my current road trip in the Balkans. I was planning to sell my giant old Volvo but it is almost valueless to sell but cos I know its history (good service record, done some work on it myself) it would be hard to replace with something else I trust to go exploring in. So does anyone know of a good (low budget) place to leave it so I can pick it up again in a year and go further.. I have to go back to work and earn some more diesel Thanks for any ideas :) (I know this is mainly a bike forum, but right now I have the car and a car license and no bike or bike license so to explore now the car is the only choice.) |

I have a car stored in France (I'm 6paws, 2+4), in an old farm shed and find myself in the same position as you, it's too good to get rid of just yet, only 95k on the clock. Also, it's my backup transport in case anything drastic happens to the 2 wheels. For the first year I had permission to parked on the village common area that was not used by anyone. It was looked over by a local. The only thing was it needed a new battery as the winter months had killed it out in the open. Now I have it under cover and with the battery disconnected and with a battery tender hooked up. Firstly, how's your French? I would suggest finding a old abandoned farm that looks to have sheds that are not used and approach the owner, if they are there. Alternatively, approach the local 'mairie' of a small village to see what he or she may know. _____ Paul |
French is fluent, but I have always lived in the mountains there and the common areas they use for pushing snow so no cars allowed in winter.
I'll be working in Australia cos I can save well there so I can't come back to move the thing if the location suddenly becomes no good. (Yeah, hence 4 paws, I've spent a bit of time on snowmobiles but not sure if that'd be 3 paws, sounds lame though) |
Can you tell in which area do you hope to find somewhere to store your car? I'm guessing it will be in the east, maybe south east? And also any idea on dates? Yes, Australia is a great place also, I happen to like the mountains of Europe and want to keep going back to explore. Drop by Tasmania then sometime if you are passing by. ____ Paul PS. 4paws wrote: Quote:

I work in the Snowies in the winter.
I totally understand the mountains of europe addiction, that's why I want to keep the car if I can, so i can keep exploring. Catching the boat back to Italy from igoumenitsa in a few hours after slovenia, croatia, bosnia, serbia, montenegro, albania. Already planning the next circuit a bit longer and a bit further east.. I fly in and out of geneva so savoie/haute savoie is the best. I might be able to lend it to someone over winter, better to turn the engine than leave it sitting. Otherwise I'm away for pretty much a year from early june till late may next year. |
Hi quadpaws,
I'm wondering if you have found somewhere yet for votre volvo? Have been thinking if it was possible to store it near to where I left my car in the past years, in Drôme department, near the village of Dieulefit, just east of Montélimar. You mentioned; Quote:

Thanks for the suggestion rockwallaby, in the last few thousand km my beloved developed a fuel leak in an awkward place so I'm selling it in Cham today i hope.
I am a bit old school so my blog is on paper only.. I went to some beautiful out of the way spots in serbia i loved, more waterfalls than mountain there though, high limestone plateau with gorges i spent 3 days on triglav (slovenia) from bled side, spectacular steep mountains, nice cheap refuges that accept (discount) foreign alpine club membership wandered around on maglic from bosnia side, very beautiful, way too much snow to summit, coldest spring in hundred years in europe apparently, no huts, good camping, worth going back, hairy road up but maybe better n summer same for durmitor in montenegro, snow (falling) avi risk etc, way more touristy so nice campsites and the only place it was easy to get maps and info, so many mountains... |
Hi 4paws,
Sounds lovely some of those spots, I will note them down so if I come near those places I can check them out. Quote:
I hope you were able to sell your car then. _____ Paul |
