Advice needed about a reasonable motorcycle in South East Asia for a reasonable price

Hello,

I'm leaving my bike behind in Georgia for the winter and plan to ship myself to South East Asia for over 7 months (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, maybe Myanmar).

I want to buy a motorcycle or a scooter once I get there.

I will be looking for something not to small as there's two of us (me and my wife, plus some basic luggage), maybe a 125cc or 250cc.

My budget will be up to $1000.

I wonder what should I be looking for. Any advice on what they have there, what's worth buying and what should I avoid?

Also I read somewhere that it's probably a good idea to buy in Thailand and travel on Thai bike to other countries, than doing it in some other way. Any advice on that would also be really appreciated.

Cheers
