Quote:
Antananarivo, Madagascar — Supporters of Madagascar's self-declared president, Marc Ravalomanana, erected barricades across the capital on Sunday as news spread that the army was set to enter the city to enforce martial law.
On the outskirts of the capital, Antananarivo, soldiers fired tear gas in clashes with residents, while scared citizens threw stones. Men and women dug trenches in the street to protect the city.
