Thefts in Hosteria de los Nubes in San Antonio de Los Cobres
 

We were staying overnight at the Hosteria de las Nubes, recommended by Lonely Planet, in San Antonio de los Cobres on our way from Paso de Jama via Catua (you'll pass San Antonio also coming from Paso de Sico and Paso Huaytiquina).
While we were forced to park the bikes on the other side of the building in the evening, all stuff were keeping us busy while the manager was not to see. Later at night we discovered, that in both rooms the bags were opened and searched carefully, the inside hidden wallets and little bags were also searched and the cash-USD were stolen (only them, not the Peso and luckly not the papers!).
The Manager wasn't worried at all and doesn't even seemed to be surprised as we reported the theft to him and called the police. He still stayed very calm as we called the very friendly and helpful police around midnight and also as we met him at the police office next day. At least I would be excited somehow and even concerned about my guests securtiy and that they feel comfortable. So don't stay there!

Sad that three are such places, but there are - one traveller we know put a rat trap in his saddlebags, and heard SNAP! OUCH! in the night. In the morning the manager had bandaged fingers. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif
