Compartmentalising countries as a weapon against the virus can work - see NZ, IoM and even China. But as soon as you allow outsiders in you create a potential entry point for the virus, as China and NZ have just found. It's not unexpected, it just illustrates the problem. Entry quarantines can help but they are not perfect, and I agree they are pretty pointless in the UK when at the time of writing we have a higher infection level than most other countries ("Thanks" Boris). Whether the entry quarantine stays (or ever gets enforced) is anybody's guess, especially if neighbouring countries (not unreasonably) take reciprocal action and the airlines kick up a fuss. Unfortunately managing the virus spread is totally a political matter, and "led by the science" all too often means picking the bits you like and using scientists as human shields when it goes wrong. So don't expect much consistency in border policies for a while yet.

Well a friend of mine came from France through the tunnel yesterday. Just waved through on both borders - no paperwork to fill in and no questions asked.

So there you go.

Not sure about the border between UK and mainland. But I crossed half of Europe earlier this week. No checks at Belgium/Netherlands, Netherlands/Germany, Germany/Austria, Austria/Hungary borders.

First check was at Hungary/Romania where we were asked to sign a document that we weren't experiencing symptoms, hadn't been in contact with people showing symptoms and would cross the country in 48h. They didn't even bother checking those papers when we left.

Entering Bulgaria was similar with the addition that we were told to self-quarantine for 14days after entering. That was cut short yesterday, when that rule was lifted for arrivals from Belgium. So border crossings within EU seem to be normalizing.

Spain now open to visitors.
My persistent positive thoughts are working a treat :D
I’m now going to focus on Boris so that he lifts the quarantine :thumbup1:

Well, that took a little longer than I had anticipated - at one point I even thought about going up into the loft and retrieving my ‘positive thought projection enhancer’ but in the end my natural powers were enough to make Boris see the light :D
Happy holidays
