Chile & Argentinia are the safest in Latin America. Current situation in Buenos Aires might not be as it was due to the economic slump, but IMHO no reason not to travel there when taking the normal precautions.

Bolivia seemed ok to me - poorer than Chile and Argentinia. The rest I cannot say.

Happy travelling!

Been travelling two months Ecuador, 1.5 months Peru, 1.5 months Bolivia, one month here in Argentina, and have had zero problems with safety issues or robbery, the BMW dealer in Cordoba not withstanding.
Cheers,
Rene

I agree.

After looking for trouble for more then a year in entire south-america (sorry, not Suriname and Guana) I am happy to tell you that the only time they tried (I specificly say tried) to rob me was when I was out at night in Cali (Colombia).

For the rest everybody (including Colombian guarilla,s) was friendly and resonable helpfull.

We are riding south in South America at the moment. Have travelled here lots - never a problem. May meet you on your way to TDF. In Santiago around 2nd week Jan, then south to Osorno, across to Argentina. Will be in TDF around 2nd - 3rd week in Feb and them up to BA for home.

Hi Madmarcos,Goggstrotters and Globebusters

I'm picking the bike up in Buenos Aires on 10th Jan then plan to head south to TDF then back up through Chile to Santiago. No more detailed plans than that really. I'll be one-up on a Transalp.

Would be interested in meeting some like-minded travellers so I'll keep an eye out for you all.

Cheers

Gary
