If you go trough the link of the Foreign Office in London you will see that they advise travellers to avoid many countries, not only because of terrorism or wars, but also the increasing of robbery and kidnapping. Countries like india who i have always thougt was pretty safe and many others. Reading the site isn´t good when you are planning something big though it is necessary.

Is there hope for the world....I want to see for my self

In my experience, I have found both the British and American goverments to be overly cautious about their advice on travelling. Especially after 9-11. Best bet is to get your information from people who have been to the places you want to go, and of course there is lots of information on this site.

Don't forget to also check the Lonely Planet "ThornTree" site http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/ which is a great forum for current travelling information as well.

The biggest danger for travellers these days is not terrorism, kidnapping or robbery, it is traffic accidents. Keep that in mind when planning your trip.
