I'm a new member
I would love to hear from "some more mature" folks
i'm 62 and wondering if there are any older riders out there that might encourage me.
i don't golf or fish i play guitar and ride

i did mx as a younger guy and ride a harley and ducati now
i've rented small bikes and riden in mexico ,viet nam,costa rica and most recently peru
i,m getting ready to retire and dream about the trips you are all taking

Saw your post today on HU. I too am 62 and dreaming about such travels as talked about on that site. I want to go to the tip of S.A. back in the late 60's when I had a BSA 650. Never could afford it. Now I'm retired and have started riding again (Honda VTX1300) and I have realized in recent weeks that South America still represents an adventure thats very appealing (of course after that trip it would be on to Africa and who know where else) Just gotta get off the dime!
Maybe you would want to compare notes.

In Oz we have the Ulysses Club. To be a junior member, you must be 40 or 45 years (I do not remember which) and 50 to be a full member. The club motto...Grow old disgracefully. As of 31 Aug 05, there were 24,629 financial members. Whilst the club constitution does not mention motor bikes, the majority of the members are bike riders and the club magazine is full of motor bike related storied and ads.

They have an International Members Liaison Officer and members in US and Canada (as well as other countries).

At the HU meet in Creel a couple months ago I met a guy who was quite an inspiration. Leroy was 79 years old, and had among other things driven midget race cars and flew cropdusters. He rode to the rally, and was talking about riding to South America.

We are older riders....
David is about to turn 60 and is riding a Honda Shadow 600 cruiser. I am only a couple of years younger and I am riding the same sort of bike. In 2000-2001 we rode from Australia to France, spending 16 months on the road. This trip we have the same bikes....they are a bit older but so are we....and we left home in August 2004. At present in England but only for a few more weeks as we organise to ship to the next stage og our journey...Florida. This trip we rode from Aus again but using a different route...even in the countries where we had been on the previous trip we went a different way. We have a good pillow each, use our own bedding in gueshouses, often camping in our tent and also have the luxury of sheepskin bike seat covers. We are on a tight budget and it would be nicer if we had more money but so far our bodies are coping okay. If your back hurts too much you can always take something..............
Not sure we would have had the staying power to do this if we were younger.

Don't worry about your age mate, I met David and Cheryl in Chiang Mai, as I was also completing 12 months and 38,000k around Asia.
I am going on 57, a grandfather and of course, divorced. (what woman would let you loose in Asia for 12 months!) and have type two diabetes.

Hi Greg-- I don't even think about my "riding age". I am 55,female. My first long ride was solo to Hyder Seek 2005 (a rally in Alaska-2730 miles) and last month I rode from Montana to Mexico ( 4820 miles)Now I'm hooked- all I do is plan the next trip(which is either Cambodia or India)

Hey Greg, age all depends on how you feel and think, I've known 20 yr olds that seem 80 by their attitudes. You've already experienced the lifestyle with your rentals, if you enjoyed it, go for it. I'm 46 and heading off to SE Asia mid next year (Flyingtiger, come say hello if we are in Cambodia at the same time)and if I like it will just keep riding. South America has always tempted me too.
