Pretoria (South Africa) to Dubai
Dear everyone
I am planning a trip from Pretoria (in South Africa) to Dubai, late 2017 or early 2018. It will most probably be a solo trip. Although I have my route more or less planned, I will most probably take a few detours along the way to experience and see the different highlight of each country I am passing through. What I need to know from who-ever did this type of trip recently: 1. What are the road conditions like, especially Africa? 2. What do I need to look out for and in which country/ies? I will appreciate any advice very much. Thanks Nightwind. |
Hi Nightwind
Lots of info on here - worth reading around a bit. I did a fair bit of that trip last year - my blog (which should give a bit of insight) is here: https://temporaryescapee.wordpress.com/ If you have any follow up questions feel free to ask. Cheers Andy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Hi Nightwind and welcome,
You don't say what route you plan to take but you can now travel all of the way up through East Africa on tarmac, albeit in various states of repair so it can be done with just about any vehicle including road bikes and 2WD cars. |
Thank you Mark. I am not sure 100%, but it looks like:
Pretoria Botswana up to Kasane Through Zambia (more to the east) Following the western path through Tanzania up to Bukoba Then Uganda (west of the lake) through Gulu South Sudan Straight through the middle of Sudan itself Up with Egipt and turning at Luxor towards the Red sea (Hurghada) Into Saudi Arabia, following the main roads to UAE Stopping in Al Hamra Sounds right? |
Hi Temp
I will read through your posting/report. Thank you very much!! |

Thanks. That's good advice.
I noticed you also went through Ethiopia. I was there a few years ago but only Addis Abbaba. But the country seems to be nice and peaceful. Will follow that route rather. Thanks again! |
