Pakistan safety

Hello!

My fiance and I are setting off on an adventure in May (sadly in a Unimog, not on a bike) and one of the countries we'd like to drive through is Pakistan.

Has anyone been to Pakistan recently? Is it safe(ish)? We'd be crossing over from India and then travelling up the karakoram highway to china.

Thank you!

Chloe

safety in Pakistan

Hi Chloec,
Coming in from India you will be reasonably safe. the areas to avoid are Peshawer about 300 miles NW of Lahore, Swat, Wazirstan and Quetta. All these place are in the western part of Pakistan close to the Afghan border. The traffic is about the same as in India if not better. Right of way is always debatable. Mechanical and animal power shares the the road equally. In case of collision expensive vehicle will always be at fault. If you need any assistance while in Lahore I will be glad to help. I am planning my own ride from Lahore to Europe end of April/Early May.

safety in Pakistan

the ride to China on KKH is safe but the local police sometimes like to provide escort and organise traffic in convoys especially at night. The rode is quite bad but the scenery is quite breathtaking. There have been some major land slides North of Gilgit around Hunza. They will probably be cleared by the time you get there. The going will be slow 300 km in 12 hours. so plan accordingly I did Lahore to Gilgit in January this year on the motorbike everything was great except the road.
