Pakisan and Iran - Visas
 

We are planning to travel through Iran and Pakistan soon, currently being in Istanbul. Can anyone give us any up to date information on visa success for Iran when applying from Istanbul? (tourist or transit?)

We have heard that it is now possible to get a 30 day visa at the boarder of Pakistan - has anyone done this or know if this is true?

Any info would be helpful.

Hi,

At the pakistan border you (if your european) can get a "30 day landing permit" (sort of transit-visa). This is however NOT extendable in any way.
Since having a pakistany visa also increases your chances of getting a iranian one (since it,s obious your be passing through) it might be a good idea to get it anyway.

I m in some big troubles to get this pak visa here in Tehran. I know that they wrote about these "landing permits" at the border to Pak in the lonely planet "Istanbul to Kat", but i heard that was finish.
Did anyone get this permit recently? Were you asked for a letter or any special document, or only a passport is enough?
It would be great...

Hi everyone,

We got our Pakistan Visa's from the
Pakistan consulate in Zahedan, which is 50km from the Iran / Pak border.

As far as we are aware, you can't get Visa's at the border, but the guys at
Zahedan seemed friendly enough and were only too happy to give us visa's. We are travelling on NZ passports.

This was in Late July this year, maybe the situation has changed since then? Why not try giving the Zahedan Consulate a call and see what they say? He're's the info:

They're open from 08:30 - 14:30
I think they're closed Thursday and Friday.

I am an American citizen in Istanbul trying to get an Iranian transit visa. I have a Pakistan transit visa issued in Budapest and the Iranians accepted my 65 bucks. They have been saying call back later for two weeks and even sujggested that I start riding for the border and if it is approved to pick it up at their consulate near there.
I obviously don't want to ride all that way to be denied or wait for more weeks. Anyone have ideas or information on this.

the best advice i can give you is that you better tell nobody (iranian people) that your an american...
as you probably know...i hope
i hear some negative stories from people passing there as an american, and is it strange???

Actually one of the main reasons I want to go there is because of the friendly people. So far I discovered that although governments don't get along, people do. This was especially true in Russia, where our respective governments still target each others nations with nuclear weapons and I was treated like family. Most people have the common sense not to hold individuals responsible for what a particular administration or regime does. Maybe other travelers have had negative experiences because of their nationality but mine have been overwhelmingly positive. Unless you're dealing with terrorists, drunks or bandits, most people are reasonable. We shouldn't believe everything we see on TV.

The visa will take time. It took me 2 -3 weeks in Almaty to get my Iranian Visa and Bob (UK) a month in Istanbul. It will take longer for an American if you get it at all. Iranians are fantastic people and you are right, they are well capable of separating politics from individuals, but they are also very politically aware and informed. It is worth the effort. The only Americans I saw in iran had dual citizenship with another country and used that passport to obtain a visa.
