Help, any body travelled calais to Lake Baikal, information required on route, and where to stay, petrol cash or cards? puntures i have heard that u can buy the mousse that they use on the Paris Dakar, anybody know where to buy it

I travelled from London to Vladivostok in 1999, via Berlin, Minsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk. No problem to Lake Baikal, and beyond. No road between Chernichevsk and Skovorodino, but you won't be going that far.
If you have problems with bike, you can put in on the Trans Siberian in the baggage car. Not very expensive.
I had no flat, bec. roads are pretty good with sections under construction. Gas available at regular intervals, self-service, cash only. Mostly 91 octane, very rarely they are out, and you have to fill up with 76. Your bike won't like it, but not much you can do about it. Distance to next gas station always posted along road. Hotels are affordable. You can also camp wild, very few camping places. Take mosquito spray. The bugs are vicious. It's a fun trip. Food available in many cafes along highway and cheap. They also serve any alcoholic beverage you can think of. You'll be in heaven. Enjoy. I wish I could go with you.

Gang, Werner is too modest to toot his own horn but he's written three books about his various journies and a fourth is in the works.

Personally, I consider Werner to be in a higher class than the more famous RTW travelers who do so much more to promote themselves!

I had the pleasure of having dinner when he passed through PHX on the way back home to Canada by way of South Caroline last Nov.

Al Jesse joined us and between the two of them, I don't think there's any place on the planet that one of them hasn't been... at least where allowed anyway!
