anyone got any hints/tips on going to india on either guided tours or hire and drive on enfields for myself and my son both on bikes.never done any overseas before,so any links or ideas welcome :helpsmilie:

I am going to India for the first time in 10 days.

I have decided to go with H-C travel, They came highly recomended and they are priced competively with all services included.

Was given the intro to them at HU meeting in Derbyshire 2010.
and they have been most helpful.

Hi bogdweller,

did exactly the same thing in 2008, riding with my son on royal enfields from Dehli to Leh, Srinagar, Amritsar back to Dehli. On of the biggest adventure in the second half of my life. My son become one of my best mates. Highly recommendable, sometimes a bit scary.
Just go for it.

My wife and I have been twice with Blazing Trails. Once around Goa Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the second time in Kerala. I can thoroughly recommend them.
Not everyone on here regards these organized tours as the "real thing" but they certainly beat sunbathing on the Cost del Sol.
Motorcycle Adventures in India.

Although I've never been on an organised tour I think they have a place in tourism especially for people with limited time and budget. Let's face it not everyone can take a year off and travel so it's a good thing to find a tour company that can give you an authentic experience.

Northern India or southern India are the best areas for riding. Avoid the hot Rajasthan desert or the over populated Utter Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Personally I recommend Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir (Ladakh), especially Ladakh.

In the south Kerala and Tamil Nadu are great but possibly best done on a backwaters (house boat) tour.

Enjoy the ride and remember that a bike is the 2nd lowest in the pecking order, just above pedestrian so you need to give way to everything especially the Holy Cow at the top of the hierachy :mchappy:

many thanks for all your replies.but due to only having an late april / early may time slot and the high temperatures in india at that time,we are going to the usa this year.

In six months and 10,000 miles round India, I never saw a bus or truck driver wearing specs. Only the most naive would believe that all Indian drivers take eye tests!
Drivers come at you from both sides of a roundabout, attack in pairs down your side of a dual carriageway.
Rules don't apply!
However there is a slow rhythm to the traffic.
Adapt to the rhythm and you will have a great time.
Get angry and you will make a mistake. Better laugh and be joyful - so much to be joyful for.
And the food - ah, the food!!!!!!!
Especially fish and crustaceans.
And my favorite (illegal now in UK), gently spiced lamb brains.

Hi Simon,

believe bogdweiler has opted for the yankee cultural option.
Very often unexperienced travellers stick to the things they know, so the USA is more appealing than a strange India. A pity, they don't know, what they are missing. Like many of us, I would go for the Indian option, unforgettable.
Would love to go again,for the fifth time, tomorrow.
