Corona Virus - where are you stuck?
 

There are a couple of people that I know are stuck on their travels and can't move forward or backward due to travel restrictions. I was wondering who was stuck. If we have a list then perhaps HUBB members can link up with and help people stuck near them - even if it is just to chat over the phone.

So if you are stuck put up your name and location (country and town/city). If you need any specific help then that could be useful too.

If you see someone that is stuck near you then drop them a private message.

I'm stuck in Tunisia until the Tunisian government lets the ferries to Europe start up (April 4th at the earliest) and the EC lets non-EC citizens enter the Schengen zone.

At present I am in Djerba and doing OK.

Hi . I'm stuck in Uyuni Bolivia. Not a bad place to be, could be worse. Does anyone know of a good shipper for my bike??

If you're looking for ocean shipping, your best option might be out of Lima. Five years ago I used Leader Freight to ship the bike home. The agent was Nestor Tambini. (511) 475-7000. Not the most knowledgeable but he got it done. Went to their office for the paperwork and then to a sketchy part of Lima to have the crate built to size. The carpenters and I loaded the crate into a truck, locked the door and it went directly to the freight warehouse. 6 weeks later it arrived. It all worked well except US customs took several weeks to release the crate. Apparently there are a lot of drugs seized from freight coming from Peru. Although I did not hire an agent at this end and processed the paperwork myself. (Suggest that you don't get involved with Gaston in Florida). Several complaints about him although he treated me fairly. A contact at this end is TTC Total Trasportation Concept in Inglewood. CA. If you need a receiving agent in the LA area, they treated me good. Good luck.

Stuck in Joinville Brazil on my bike. Have an apartment rented through April 18th. City is on lockdown. All borders around me are closed. I have registered with the STEP program with the US Embassy so they know where I am and how to contact me. Food is available nearby. Laying low

My wife and I have been in quarantine with our bike in Esquel, Argentina for five weeks now. Current lockdown is due to end on 26th April but we're fully expecting it to be extended again.

We're able to walk to the supermarket or pharmacy but nothing else. The roads into the centre of town are closed off by police and you need a permit to drive a vehicle.

We are in a small apartment and have everything we need so no great hardship. Only concern right now is that we're heading into winter.

If the lockdown lasts much longer our tourist permits and temporary import for the bike will expire. The government here have said they will extend expired tourist permits by 30 days when things start to move but we're not sure on the bike yet. I'm sure it will be fine though.

We hope to be able to continue with our travels but suspect that the decision may be taken out of our hands. Argentina will extend our tourist permits by 30 days but I'm not convinced that we'll be able to freely cross borders. If that's the case then we may be forced to return to the UK :-( We'll just have to take it as it comes and plan as and when we know what's happening.

Bike and I stuck at Mahahual, Quintana Roo Mexique. Borders to Belize or Guatemala are closed. Got a 180 days more visa and TIP extension. It’s not especialy fun but it could be worth. Waiting the borders reopening ������������ have a thought for all others riders. Be carreful

ViajarMOTO stuck in Spain...
 

Hi ya’all. We are Travis and Chantil (www.viajarMOTO.com) and we thought 2020 would be an epic year for starting full-time motorcycle travel. Who woulda thunk otherwise? We were just two weeks into our trip that started in Germany and ended in a screeching skid in southern Spain.

We are fortunate to have found an wonderful hostess with an AirBnB who has been incredible generous. Our apartment has all the needs a traveler could want and Chantil is able to make weekly grocery runs to a local store.

Right now, Spain is expected to continue the lock-down until May 9th. However, I’m wondering if tourism will continue to be shut down until well after the summer. I imagine countries will not be to eager to let tourists potentially start another round of infections!?

I’ve talked with the US Consulate in Spain and was told that our visa days will not count for the duration of the lockdown. If this is the case then we could still travel for another 70 days after the lock-down is lifted. But where do we travel? Sure, Spain is big enough and one could easily spend 70 days enjoying the different regions of this great country but I wonder if campsite, AirBnBs, and hotels will even be available. What about tourist sites? Will locals be upset when a pair of US plated bikes roll into town? So many questions and it’s starting to make me think that traveling in 2020 is no bueno...

The spanish people are nice, but I don't now what happend when you are riding arround with US plates
and asking for the next coffee-bar & cake. (arround some of the spanish people are diying)

May be they think Mr. T is coming?

Motravel, thanks for the reply. We’ll see how things go when they list the travel ban and we do some local trips around Murcia where the virus has not hit Spain as hard. So many uncertainties right now. I guess we’ll just wait and see...
