Carnet de passage or Temporary Import Permit ?

Hello,
This summer we made a big trip with our motorbike from the eastcoast of Canada to the westcoast of the U.S.A. We flew our bike from Belgium to Toronto, which was quite expensive. Now our bike is parked with some friends in Los Angeles and next summer we want to go from Mexico to Panama and later from Colombia to Argentina. My question is: do we need a carnet de passage? Officially they say you need one for most of the Southamerican countries, but they never ask for it. I know it's sometimes easier with a CPD, but the problem is that we have to take the bike back home then and we don't want to do that. After this trip he will have done almost 150.000 km and it will not be worth the cost of shipping him back. So does someone have a suggestion what to do?
Thanks

You DO NOT need a carnet for any countries in the americas. None. You will usually get around 30 days temporary import permit, varying from country to country. (180 days for mexico fx, 30 for guatemala)

Have fun!
