Calais
Hi there i am due to go to France in a few weeks time. I read a couple of days ago about vehicles attempting to get to the Calais ferry being being stopped by human chains made up of refugees across the road and being forcibly robbed. Has any one any heard about or had any experience of this or is it the Daily Mail scaremongering again?
I somehow get the feeling that if I tried to ride straight through a crowd I would come off worse! Thanks in advance. GM |
Sounds like the typical crap the Daily Mail would come out with.

Sounds like a unsubstantiated rumour - French police would go in hard if anything like this was happening. There is a road near the ferry that the lorries going to the UK use where refugees hide in bushes and then jump out to get on the trucks but I've not heard anything about cars being forcibly stopped.
I came into the UK via Calais 2 days ago - I used the tunnel but I didn't see anything untoward in the area. |
I am crossing on the 8th August, it will be me the Mrs and nipper in our Land Rover.
If I end up making fertiliser with my Landy, i'll let you know!:eek3: |
Going and coming back from Normandie last May, in the motorway, just few miles from the ferry compound, we saw men crossing the motorway just as we were approaching. Scary to see people on foot walking through the lanes, but there was very little traffic.
They did not try to stop us or anything but they do indeed walk all over the motorway, so be careful. |
I came back from Nurburgring through Calais in June with no sight of any trouble. We stopped at the services just before the tunnel and left the bikes and luggage with no problems.

We came back on 30th August, no trouble, but did see a few people crossing the motorway!
