Helmet as hand luggage?
What is the current position about taking a Helmet as hand luggage?
Specifically with Icelandair, Virgin Atlantic & Delta Airlines?? |
Maybe
I have quite often taken a helmet as hand luggage. Have flown on Qatar Airways, Malaysian, Air Asia, Air New Zealand, Qantas, Virgin Australia, Scoot, Tiger.
But it is a risk, as the maximum dimension allowed is usually 230mm, and helmets are usually 280mm. If asked to put the hand luggage in the tester, it will not fit. But I have flown quite a lot of the world without a problem yet. |
We've had the same experience as David, no issues, lots of airlines, 4 continents so far carrying on. You should ask to be sure, but we carry ours in a helmet carrier bag so it doesn't leap out, and keep it behind us :) when checking in and boarding. Throw a jacket over it etc :)

I have never had a problem taking a helmet onboard an aircraft as hand baggage.

Flying with some indian airline from Bangkok to Katmandu I was not allowed to take my helmet as cabin luggage. So I guess this differs from airline to airline. Best would be to contact the airline you will fly with...
|
you can take a hat with you so wear your helmet when in doubt.
But do not put a parachute in your hand luggage when you do, may look suspicious. |
Just back from Bolivia. I flew Avianca, BOA, and Ecojet (possibly the worst airline in existence). I had 2 helmets for me and my girl and no issues.
|
That was potentially a pain in the a**e!
|
we carry ours in the original boxes without any comments.

I always take my helmet onboard an aircraft as hand baggage and haven't had any problems with it.
