Some will call doing 1000 mile days and eight countries a week an achievement. For others its a box ticking exercise that'd be about as much fun as sorting the tins in the kitchen cupboard into date and alphabetical order.

Agree with many of the comments on this thread. Interesting question. As others have said, so much depends on the road conditions/climate that it really is 'how long is a piece of string?'.

I rather doubt that Roynie and I have particularly higher endurance thresholds than other people on this forum - the reverse, in fact. We often don't ride for weeks or months at a time before embarking on a long trip. Even so, we find, in good road conditions, averaging 90kph, 450km a day is comfortable with 20-30 minute breaks (not 'brakes') every two hours and the odd unscheduled 'Kodak moment'. We aim to be on the road by 9am - arriving at our destination no later than 6pm. As to overnight breaks or 'tourism days', that will very much depend on where we are going, time available, what there is to see en route, and whether or not we have a 'target' destination in mind.

We plan our overnight stops on the basis of 450km per day but, inevitably, there will be days where we might ride 600km or, again, short days where we only do 250km!

We don't tend to venture far from the tarmac, but tougher road conditions naturally demand adjustments to speed and therefore mileage.

I don't get how people enjoy the vacation in such a haste. Going on a tour and returning within 4 days is like going to nowhere. Better not to try for a quick vacation, but a memorable vacation.

How many km's ? Wrong question I think.

My view is it should be "how many hours do you ride per day?"

Of course there is no one answer fits all for either question they both have infinite variables. I like to enjoy all my time on the bike so thrashing down a 4 lane motorway/autobahn to get somewhere "nice" doesn't come high on my list ( been there done that hated it). It's already been said I think that many people have too higher expectations of what they can achieve and end up rushing to get from A-B-C and D before they turn home. If you actually take your time, even if short on time, you often find A-B has a lot going for it rather than just riding past B C D ....and home.

A classic newbie traveller error which many have done, ( me included )

Every traveler is different. He may not like to visit same place as the other traveler. Factors which affect his likelihood to visit a country is his likes, nature, and climate condition that he loves.
