It might be a good idea to mention what you usually use (e.g. Ventolin, Becotide etc.)so that non-doctors can have a look in pharmacies and get back to you.

Hi Ed,

Had no problems buying the blue ventolin inhalers on our trip, just can't remember whether it was in Peru or Argentina. Cost around U$8, helps if you have an empty one to show the pharmacist to ensure you get the right thing!!

ride safe and breathe!

This might sound a bit obvious but if you are carrying spare Ventolin/Becotide etc., dump all the packaging and the plastic shells (bar the one you are using and one spare) and just carry the cylinders. They take up a lot less space that way.

I have never had a problem carrying quantities of asthma medicines across borders.

yes, forgot to add...

I use the Blue Ventolin and Flixotide..

I doubt id ever need them as my asthma is very mild but its sods law to need something when you havnt got it.

Are these perscription only in SA as they are in the UK. Would i need a doctors note to get them ?

You can pretty much buy anything over the counter in Central & S. America, no doctor required!! Same goes for Asia too.
