112 is THE Emergency phone Number for all Europe

we had a client have a heart attack at work last night & none of the people in the marina knew how to contact the emergency services.

i've searched the HUBB & am surprised at not having found a thread on the subject of "112"

if I've missed it & this has already been discussed then would a mod feel free to zap this, or move to a more apt forum if neccessary? Ta.

I have been shocked recently by the number of people who are unaware that "112" is now a pan-european emergency response number, it works alongside the national numbers (999 in the uk, 15, 17, & 18 in france, etc) & works in ALL 27 member states plus Norway, iceland, switzerland, lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Andorra, Monaco, the vatican, Turky, macedonia, serbia & croatia .
Spain, portugal, luxembourg, denmark, finland & sweden have abandoned their national numbers in favour of 112 & others , such as france, redirect calls to the relevant services.

112 can be used from any phone, mobile or fixed, on ANY OPERATOR it will simply use the available network (even if your phone is not set up for "roaming")

112 will work from a mobile even if the phone is locked / Blocked (if an unknown pin code is requested, use 112 & valid)

112 will work even if the phone has no sim card (or credit or whatever) (except in france where a sim card is necessary)

As with any emergency call, the operator will need to know who you are, where you are, what the problem is etc etc & will not neccessarily speak your language.

"all you ever wanted to know & more about 112"

Good to know this. I've also just knew while talking to a fellow traveler from India. Their emergency number is 100.
