Pakistan tour

Well I finally did it. I have traveled around the world to a lot of places like 100 countries so far. The places that reach out and grab me were getting thinner and the kkh road (Karakorum Highway) in Pakistan seemed like the top of the list. I am from the USA so Pakistan seemed like a reach for me. All my friends are like are you nuts? But to road kept calling. I needed a letter of invitation to get a visa being from the USA and would also need a guide. Renting a bike was the way to go and I found a great company to invite me and have bikes and take care of everything. I booked a 21 day tour in the Northern part of Pakistan. The last one of the season as it is getting cold. I have done India in the Himalayas, Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan plus 4 of the Russian Stans on the Pamair highway so I am no stranger to this type of ride. Pakistan is the best of all of these as far as scenery. The mountains are spectacular and the valleys are the best. The people are great and the motorcycles that we rented were great. We had the big bikes in the country as we had Suzuki 150 with electric start and everyone there seemed to have Honda 125 kick start or Honda 70 bikes. We Started in Islamabad and took a land rover and drove to Naran to the North and then on to Gilgit where we picked up our bikes. We hit Skardu, Shigar, Hushe, Passu as the main towns all the way up to the Chinese border. You are right in the middle of three of the major mountain ranges where they all come together. The Karakorum, the Himalayas, and the Hindu Kush all come together in one spot with two major river systems starting there. All I can say is go you will not regret it at all. Karakorum bikers is the tour group I used and they were great. Ride fast take chances. Larry

I am not sure that you actually need a guide or even a LOI anymore as Pakistan has opened up a little more to tourism. I can say that I rented a bike from Kharakorum bikers for a self guided tour last year and was happy with the bike and service, Pakistan is a great country to visit especially the north so don't let others put you off.

Hi Shah,
Great to hear you were able to make it to Australia, Lizzy would be pleased too. Would have been great to catch up, you all could have come up to our small farm near Ballarat(could have taken one of my bikes out for a ride). Un fortunately we are in Malta(catching up on my family heritage) as the last part of our European bike ride. Should be back early march. Enjoy Australia. Say hello and thanks to Lizzy because I know we were not the most straight forward group to organise.
Cheers
Joe
