This year it's a close to an empty house - everyone is working (lot of medics in the family). Last year we were all on the slopes in France skiing - what a difference a year makes!
Some years ago I spent Xmas day in Morocco. Lunch consisted of a banana and a cup of coffee in an empty restaurant. Scenery was nice though -

Last Christmas Eve was spent driving in the hills around Queenstown, NZ, then catching a series of planes up to AKL - Christmas Morning in Shanghai airport, afternoon and evening of Christmas Day in Kaohsiung.

A couple years ago, spent Christmas with a random group of backpackers in Hue, Vietnam - they put on quite the spread!

In 1991 I spent Christmas Day on the forecourt of a Polish petrol station - which was closed!

Normally I hop on a turboprop and fly up into the BC Interior to spend a few days with my mom and stepdad. I've cancelled my ticket for this year due to COVID. It will only be the second time I've missed Christmas with my mom in 54 years. :(

Maybe next year...

If it was closed why were you there all day?

Had no petrol to go anywhere else, I’m guessing.

No, it wasn't because I needed diesel.
I reckoned that I would be stuck in no mans land at the Belorussian border for Christmas Day if I carried on. I thought I would have access to at least a WC but I didn't take into account that Poland being a good catholic country - in those days - meant that everything was shut on Christmas day.

Yes, siphoning diesel by mouth is a pretty disgusting thing to do ... :innocent:

Doesn't taste quite so bad when it's slushy and waxy and mixed with 2 star!

Not this year, but happier times 4 years ago. I rolled into Ushuaia on Christmas Eve late afternoon in 2-3 degrees celcius and heavy sleet....

I always thought the Ushuaia was in the grips of summer at the turn of the year but that doesn’t look very summery to me, nor does the temperature resonate with that season - please tell me the weather improved.

Traditional

Yesterday we enjoyed our first Christmas back in the UK since 2009, only shared with my parents, but a full roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings on a bitterly cold day - there was even snow to be seen on top of the surrounding hills.
2019 was a barbecue on a farm in Northland, New Zealand. 2018 barbecue on an Aussie catamaran in Papeete, Tahiti. 2017 a barbecue in a boatyard in Panama 2016 a traditionalish rotisseried chicken dinner on a Canadian yacht in St. Thomas, USVI, 2015 pizzas on South Beach, Miami. 2014 lobster boiled & barbecued, with lots of rum in the cays off southern Cuba. 2013 a beach-braai on the island of Cariacou. 2012 a quick sandwich in between repairing a boat sail & rigging in Mindelo, Cap Verde Islands. 2011 a pot-luck inside a launderette (it began raining) in Missalonghi, Greece and 2010 was a real blow-out, complete with belly dancers in Marmaris Turkey.
If forced to choose, then the party in Carriacou was probably the best, though Marmaris definitely left us with the worst hangovers and Cuba was the best bargain, with some fishermen trading us 22 lobsters for a gallon of the rough rum, of which we'd bought lots, for US$20/gallon in Cienfeugos.

I spent 4-5 days in Ushuaia and the weather improved a tad, but not a whole lot.
Summer doesnt mean the same all over the world...
