Worried, things do not impress so much anymore!

Has anyone had similar thing as I have at the moment and how did you overcome it?
I am currently in NZ and a bit worried because roads do not feel so exciting and scenery is nice, but not amazing.
I think I have been spoiled by amazing roads in Dolomites, Italy and breathtaking sceneries in Pakistan.

At the moment I am just waiting to see Alaska and andies, but I would like to enjoy more NZ. Problem is that it just does not impress me. :(
How can I overcome this and enjoy the sceneries over here?
Anyone faced the same issue during RTW?

You are not the first person to feel like this on an extended trip, I am not sure how long you have been travelling but I find that after about six months on the road the exotic becomes normal and loses some of its wonder.
Having done one 12 month trip I now limit my travels to a maximum of six months before going home for a year or two and work towards the next one.
Some people get over the feelings you have by finding somewhere they are comfortable and settle there for a few months, perhaps finding some work and a routine before resuming their trip.

Hey Marko,

Si is sitting beside me while I work right now (well, 5 minutes ago), looking through our pics from our motorcycle travels together over those 18 months. What seemed a little mundane to us at the time now makes us smile ear to ear. I would say, don't worry so much about what you're cherishing now. You will cherish it soon. And I can also say that from our travels as a group, you and us and the rest of the group, those are some of the best moments and memories. Maybe try to meet up with some more people. Or even if you don't work, as Mark suggests, maybe settle in one spot and meet some of the regulars at the campsites or the bike club. Or what about a project/mission? Maybe train a bit and summit a mountain in NZ. Volunteer some place. Learn to milk a cow or sheer a sheep. Publish a short e-book of your experiences, travel advice and photos thus far.

Looking forward to reminiscing with you some day.

Hi Mark,
I guess it is quite common. I have been travelling now for 19 months and still keep ongoing for many many more.

Jeff & Si,
Staying put in one place would be one option in a country where I can stay longer. In NZ I can stay only 3 months, so just need to use this time properly going around. I try to grab photos along away (even things do not look so impressive, good to hear that in some day they will :)).

I am already thinking how Alaska and Andies will look likeā€¦

Maybe one reason is that these "western" countries are not "exotic" enough and due to this travelling is too easy...

I found the same thing after the Swiss Alps and the Dolomites - everything was just that little bit mediocre. Consequently, I didn't enjoy Ireland as I should have.

My cure, as Mark suggested, was to stay put for 6 months and the "hunger" returned.

Hi Mezo,

I am in north island (I already did south).

Yep

All very true what people are saying.

After coming out of such places as Pakistan, India, Nepal, Thailand etc. Australia (for example) can appear completely mundane as the contrast is so extreme.

I wondered about it as well for a long time before realising it was all just relative. That's all it is in some ways.

In some ways it is also after having fought my way through some countries (language, roads, lawless driving) then the 'developed' tarmac, petrol stationed roads can seem dull.

But easier, much, much easier!

Kick back and enjoy the comparative calm bier

We had it the other way around, we started in NZ and after SEA and AU... NZ is still on our top list. We have been very lucky in meeting the right people at the right time, 3 Month and only 6 days rain in total. but we know what you are talking about, after 12 Month SEA Australia was hitting us hard... but afer Indonesia, no people for a while was good too...

How to overcome it? Just make clear to yourself that you are spoilt! In some time (however long your journey will continue) you will stop and look back and ask yourself: "Have I been totally crazy in New Zealand?"

Enjoy every second, at least try! :D

Cheers
