its a race !!!

Hola Dazzerrtw,

I also saw it on telly ... and I have to say I was upset as well ... but than I had another beer and .... hey NOBODY that has ever ridden a motorcycle (and Peterhansel has) would do this on purpuse, and dont forget this people are at the maximum and try to cut every corner as sharp as possible to finish first in the race. Dont forget it is a race ...

... and it has nothing to do with motorcycle travelling.

my 2 p worth

I saw that on the SBS report and thought, I hope he gets penalised, that is just gross stupidity and never stopped to help him, arsehole!!!

Big Yellow Tractor 12 Jan 2012 07:05

Peterhansel, not good to see. Reckless or just thoughtless ?

Bad form, whichever way you look at it.

Likewise Cyril Despres; getting another rider to help him out of the mud then fc*ng-off and leaving him buried.

The pair should both be penalised for “unsportsmanlike behaviour”

jkrijt 12 Jan 2012 10:25

Do you really think the French organisation will penalise Peterhansel for “unsportsmanlike behaviour”.
They rather kick Robby Gordon, the competitor of Peterhansel out of the race.....

I think the Dakar is a great adventure but if you want to win, it helps to be French.

Have to agree with this post 100%, Peterhansel and Despres both seem to do as they please, but why not?, both are French, and the Rally is French run, also, did one of the organizers David Castera not to be confused with current rider David Casteu used to be Peterhansels 'team mate' on bikes years ago?. The fairest guy to bikers I ever heard about was ex KTM man Alfie Cox, as when he changed to race cars, used to watch which way the wind was blowing before overtaking a bike so as not to cover the rider in dust etc. So I take it now that most of us are hoping for Marc Coma and Robby Gordon victories this year!!

yes it's a race

but it wouldn't have hurt the idiot to drive slightly on the left

i hope he comes a cropper.

the commentary made me think of the riders probable comment... "Bastardo!"

Peterhansel... yeah, he had a race to run but there's a limit to what is deemed sportsman like. That definatly wasn't! Plus he also INTENTIONALLY put a spectator in danger!

.......now that's naughty!

Can't believe either, and whole-heartedly agree!

I can't believe Peterhansel didn't get penalised for this

Equally, I'm 100% rooting for Coma now . . . . :thumbup1:

IMHO, the only "defence" for Peterhansel is that he was driving the only "drivable on 4 wheels" line through the water. Looking at the water and the turbulance in it, it seems that upstream of the left side of the car (and left hand wheels) the water is much deeper (hence smooth flowing water) and it then hits the shallow ford and gets its turbulance. He should however still not have run into the rider.

If my hypothesis isn't correct, Peterhansel is a tosser, a garlic eating surrender monkey tosser at that.:9898:

In the words of the Monty Python crew, don't you mean "A CHEESE EATIN' SURRENDER MONKEY":thumbup1:

I do agree that it was dangerous and unsportsmanlike like!:nono:

I thought I was (mis)quoting George W Bush...:freezing: In hindsight misquoting MP makes me feel much better. They were a lot funnier.

Edit: Just did my research on the fabled source of all knowledge "Wikipedia" and the cheese eating quote is from The Simpsons. Peterhansel's driving bears more than a passing similarity to Homer's in the opening sequence of every Simpsons episode... :stuart:

Well, areshole Peterhansel has done it again, complained bitterly to the organisers that Robbie Gordon is too fast hence he must be cheating. So, even though the tyre air pressure control system passed inspection PRIOR to the race start, he has now been disqualified, but WILL continue to race because he has appealed, which won't be heard for 3 weeks

Funny how, because he's French, that is not racist....

Small reminder folks: he's one guy, not an entire nation.

So, let's keep our little prejudices to ourselves, shall we?

Well I guess we will read more about the "air pressure control" and I'm sure you know that even if a car passes the test it doesn't mean it's okay. There is no way to know if a car is okay without pulling it apart.
After all it's not ASO's responsibility that the vehicle is built by the book.

But it looks like RG has filed a complaint about Peterhansel, so I guess that evens it out. (?)

Yeah, there's some uninformed nonsense here.

Congratulations to Peterhansel and Despres; very well deserved wins.

Hi all

I have to apologise for the derogatory comment about the french and yes, there are a lot of nice ones as well and I have met a few, I let a rant get out of hand.

I still stand by my other comments.

Cheers

I'm just going to drop this here, lifted from someone elses post on ADVrider...

Quote:

I have just found this internet blog by italian journalist Elisabetta Caracciolo (shame I didn't find it earlier): quellidellafrica

It is all written in italian, and I did find some interesting insights about the Peterhansel/Ciotti incident, told from Ciotti himself. As the blogger says Ciotti is a nice guy that from day one is on the funny side making jokes of everyone and everything and making up excuses to withdraw. Reality is that he went on racing with his Rieju getting better positions leg after leg. Anyway, here's what Ciotti said:

"..."I was doing my best - says Filippo (Ciotti) - to push the bike out of the river and a spanish guy was helping me out. I was just two metres away from the land when Stephane came hitting my leg and I had just the time to jump to get away from his rear wheel. Obviously I did let my bike go and it drowned into the river" ..... "I didn't get hurt, I was feeling ok - he goes on joking - so unfortunately I had no excuse to withdraw from the race. Then the bike didn't want to start so I thought that it was a perfect excuse. Now I can finally withdraw. But here comes Franco Picco saying: "that's not a problem. Now do this, open that, clean there, then put this aside, put that there and the bike will start again. Is that all clear?" while I was thinking "Thanks Franco, don't worry, go on with your race, do not mind about me". Picco instead wanted to fix everything so I had to get at the bivouac. ()

At that point his first will was to get Peterhansel but he found him already at his tent begging pardon for what he did. "Please excuse me, I haven't seen you, from that car we do not have good visibility, I never did hit a biker, please excuse me, I swear it never happened before....ecc ecc".

..... The frenchman then declared: "I have seen Filippo (Ciotti) in the river and at first I did stop waiting for him to get out. Then I saw he was two metres from the edge and was going to get out so I moved, but at that point the guy who was helping him fell on the slippery surface and Filippo found himself alone pushing the bike out from the water on a steep edge. That is why that manouvre took him more time than I expected and I eventually did hit him".

On a following report another bit is added to the story:

"After Stephane and Filippo cleared the question at the tent, Peterhansel offered himself to get to the race direction to ask a time refund for Ciotti declaring that was his fault. Peterhansel then met Franco Picco at the bivouac and reassured him that the delay accumulated by Ciotti would be canceled. At that point Picco answered "well, if I knew I would also ask refund for the time I have spent fixing Filippo's bike..." Peter answered "You're right" and got back at the race direction to take care of it."

End of the story: Ciotti had 33 mins back and Picco 11 mins.

Sorry, I know it is an old story and I had to "cut" a couple of parts from the articles (sorry also for the bad translations...) but I thought it was interesting to get all points of view.
