Trip France to Scotland. some numbers

Wife and I just toured Scotland, Took our cooking gear and sleeping bags just in case but stayed at hotels.. thing is we did 2,318 miles and averaged 73mpg.
In the Uk diesel was around £1.12p per litre and in France 1.05 Euros.

I have to say we were blessed with good weather for teh whole 11 days and it would have been great on a bike,, but two up???

When I ride equipped for camping alone, bike is pretty well loaded. leastwise no room for a pillion rider. this trip was done in our little Citroen C3 that was meant to be the wifes' shopping car :)

so heating, air con all at more mpg than the triumph .

Don't think the trip would have been possible on a bike.. I take the view I would rather go by car than stay at home. even to a bike rally.

Why not, given that it turned out you didn't need to camp? I'm assuming that carrying the extra gear is the problem when you are two up.
