Too slow?

Hi all,

Have you had this feeling during your RTW trip that you are going too slowly?
I have used now 1 year to travel from Germany to Indonesia.
On the other hand, I have felt several times, that I have been going too fast (like through Laos)...

I feel that any faster I would just rush through and miss a lot of places, but then I also think if I am going too slowly...

What is a good speed?

travel speed

hello there,

the perfect speed is YOUR speed, but never ride faster than your guardian angle can fly.

It took me 6,5 years to ride around the world, others do it in 3 months or in 16 years, it is your ride ... you dont have to prove nothing to nobody, just enjoy it at your pace.

Greetings from Switzerland
mika

Hi Mika,

Yes, the trip sonly for myself and should go speed that feels good for me.
I guess one could use the whole lifetime travelling and still would miss lot of nice places...

Slow ahead captain!

Hi Marko,
Les and I rushed our RTW ride in 3 years. If we had the time and money it would had been great to spend one year in each country! But then a reality check is required from time to time with a visit home.
Having been following Your blog, you're setting a nice relaxed pace, which ultimatly's governed by how happy you're feeling with the now!
Get well soon my friend.
Nick.

The perfect timing is when you walk into the job you have to get to pay for the next trip, 2 minutes early and with the price of the petrol to get home and your lunch in your pocket.

How you break up the time and cash before that is more difficult to define. Until you've been there you don't know if you should plan to stay longer or move on ASAP. There is one of those optimist or pessimist questions there. Optimists get home early through thinking the next place will be better, then no doubt get pessimistic about the great places they left behind!

Go at your own speed.

Andy

If you are enjoying your trip at its current pace? if so then it is the right speed.
As has been stated there is no right or wrong speed just the one that you enjoy travelling at.
I had planned to take 4-5 months to get from the UK to Oz and in the end took 10 months and I wouldn't have had it any other way so take it easy and enjoy the ride.

Judge it a day at a time. If you want to move on, move on. If you dont, then don't!!! Simple..

Well you were leaving us in the dust but we are about to leapfrog you;) I think your pace has been very good for you. You have covered many kms while balancing it with sightseeing and relaxing, really enjoying the trip. We too get that feeling of alternating between too slow & too fast. It's like mood swings. But it also depends on the country I think. 2500kms in Kazakhstan is way more fast riding than the same in India or SE Asia...

No worries if you miss something this ride then that's one more thing to anticipate for the next one;) now tell them bones to knit faster so we can tear up some Aussie road! Xxoo Si

I agree that distances in SE Asia and India are shorter than in Kazakhstan :)
Darn, a bit over a week from the surgery and I am getting bored, I want to go for a ride in SE Asia! I want to go away from Europe! I want to continue my journey! :taz:

I have tried to come with a rhythm that I ride 3-4 days and then have 1-2 days stop to get more familiar to a place. Sometimes it works, sometimes does not.
But, the main thing is to go, I have seen such amazing places and met truly gorgeous people (especially in Indonesia after my accident)!:thumbup1:

I spend 1-2 days maybe max 3 days in one place on my current trip as i dont wont the wheel bearings to seize up:innocent:

Oh, I would love to get ongoing again... This healing process (from the accident) takes so much time. I want to be on a road again! :scooter:

Have you got yet to the point where you feel that you are riding a donkey,:thumbup1:, instead of a bike?
