Never tried myself but I've heard that slaughtering a lamb and leaving it in front of your tent will draw the wolves in close. Is that what you meant?

A snippet taken from my mates blog from two years ago, when he was in Mongolia:
It is getting very cold at night in these parts. Im woken at dawn by a pack of wolfs outside the tent. They sound exactly like the impersonation the Italian on the Moto-guzzi did for me a few days ago, if I didnt know better I would have guessed them to be wild boar. There are at least three very interested in snorting and sniffing under the tent and I can hear more wandering around a few meters away. The sniffing and snorting gets more and more enthusiastic, I cant see anything but can hear that snouts are now under the tent porch. (No ground sheet here). I had had thoughts about this happening and imagined that I would get dressed into my bike gear but in reality this is no time for rustlings and movement inside the tent that would only cause more interest. Ive been staying very quiet but now is the time for action and so at the top of my voice I sing out DAYO IS-A DAYO IS-A. This works a bit and the wolfs jump back but they dont leave, now pacing around a few meters from the tent. They pace around the tent for a good 30 minutes and in that time lots of sounds cause me to imagine lots of things. There is some running, several low deep throaty yawns, then the snapping of twigs on the ground. Then a very load deep growl, could that be a bear! A lone animal now circles the tent. The locals near by, about a quarter mile away wake up and get up, they start to make a lot of noise as is their way, Shouting and then chopping wood, its the unmistakable sound of a heavy thump on a tree stump cracking through the air. Slowly the noises outside my tent get more distant. I desperately want to sneak a look but Im no fool and stay still for another ten minutes. Now its time for me to get up, Im desperate for a piss and so singing DAYO all the time I get dressed and out of the tent, its cold and Im hungry. ?c? |
Purchase a 3. Wolf moon shirt from amazon, it will attract members of the sex you are inclined to, it will repel critters , boarders and other hostile elements.
Read the reviews on amazon.:funmeteryes: |
I hear it's the same with lions. The night is their domain but the day it yours. They don't apparently know what to do with a tent even though we know it's really easy for them. Animals are way more risk adverse than us.

Gray Wolves
If you are querying the HUBB regarding Gray Wolves, an extremist right wing group aided and abetted by our own CIA under the auspices of a program code named Gladio (Turkey 1960s and continuing) - the stay behind armies put in place following WWII, I would suggest, you sing God Bless America in lieu of Dayo IS-A Dayo etc... or join us in the Call for Intellectuals thread of the HUBB Pub for more intel.
xfiltrate eat, drink and sing |
Wolves are very shy creatures. Usually quite scared of humans.
I'd be more worried about the Black Bears... |
Not had a problem with wolves yet but have woken up to a herd of cows nibbling their way round the edge of the tent and err... leaving their mark :(
Opened the tent in the morning once to find a wild turkey staring back at me - are they dangerous? Camped on a rubbish dump in the Pyrenees (it was dark when we put the tent up!) and spent the night listening to rats scratching at the material trying to get in. Not sure singing God save the Queen or whatever would have helped - I doubt they spoke English. doh |
Try not to mention Stale Solbakken or Terry Connor. Always slip in Bully, Waggie or The Doog comments when appropriate. Always deny the existence of West Bromwich.

How did a football team get into this conversation :-) :offtopic: |
More on Wolves
For walkabout
"Wolves sack assistant boss Terry Connor Wolves this afternoon fired assistant boss Terry Connor after 13 years at the club. The 49-year-old, who ended last season as manager at Molineux following Mick McCarthy’s sacking, has left after just two months with new boss Stale Solbakken." Any Questions? xfiltrate, eat, and drink more |

Spot on Walkabout, "not managing the wolves" is the best tip, a tip
I have tried my very best to convey far and wide for many years.... Few have listened. Once you identify, organize , train up and provide arms, you will be bitten on the a** just as soon you turn your back. xfiltrate eat, drink and herd cats instead..... it is easier.... |

Even 99 % of Turks don't know and will never accept this! How could you know well about this ? Interesting ! |
Merhaba Effendi
Samy, I was there, in the sixties, in Ankara, I too was a student, we all knew, especially the Turks who were recruited. And, there have been leaks, even to the United Nations in open session. A quick internet search will reveal much that has recently been declassified.
Just to keep on topic for others who read here... - we are talking about wolves, gray wolves..... Thanks for the reply. xfiltrate |
The first few nights I ever wild camped were in Norway, and probably because the lonely planet points out in about its first paragraph that Norway is home to most of Europe's wolf population or something, I spent a fair bit of time lying awake convinced I could hear four legged animals.

Tips for wolves
I don't know where you are travelling, and what season.
Mid and late winter food scarcity for the large predators could put you on the menu. You could be attacked if you cornered or threatened one, by for example chasing one to take a photo. Generally all potential killer animals will prefer to avoid humans - they have a lot of bad experience with us. As far as I know in Scandinavia no one has been killed by wolves for centuries. Bears do attack, especially if they have young cubs around. Makes sense not to leave food, and waste, lying around to attract your new furry friends. In Northern America there is a real bear problem, and a set of safeguards to protect yourself. Bad situation to lie in your tent and hear things, been there, better to make some noise and have a look. Use a torch. Your wolf may turn out to be a squirrel. More of a threat to your wellbeing is the animals, wild and domestic, crossing your road. Not to mention the urban predators on two legs, drunks and druggies, or just loony or hatefull. Hope this helps Safe travels Peter , in Oslo |
