We rode through part of it back in August - along the 340-a and the A-92 between Mojacar and Granada. Very hot with hilly scrubland that did remind me of bits of New Mexico / Arizona. The 340 would be quite a nice ride were it not for some kind of cement factory or something at the eastern end as we were tailgated by a succession of 'death race' cement tankers along almost the whole length of it.

Down at the western end, just before it joins the A-92 there's the two 'Western' complexes - firstly the somewhat down at heel looking Fort Bravo (probably more accurate to the old west!) and then, on an awkward bend a little later, the better known (at least to me anyway), Mini Hollywood. We didn't visit either of them for time / cynicism reasons but certainly Mini Hollywood looked popular, with a number of coaches going in and out. Others may know more about the area, and if so I'd be interested to know what we missed (we usually do!)

Thanks for your imfo ! I will keep well away from the "hot spots " and find some offroad trails ! :scooter:

Tabernas is an area of badlands, similar to many others around Spain. On large scale Spanish maps they even use the word 'badlands'. Basically poor soil that doesn't support much in the way of plant life, so it's the soil rather than lack of rain that causes the problem. And then when it does rain, there's nothing to stop the water washing away the crap soil.

Generally Spain has excellent off-tarmac riding, lots of caminos (tracks) everywhere.
