Riding the Waves...literally

Seen it on the news last night
This guy is mad  , the video is really well done.
Guy Martin attempted this on one of his shows but was nowhere near as good

WOW!!

Even made it onto the front page of the BBC website. It looks so impressive I wondered whether it was CGI to start with. Back in my jet ski days I'd have been happy just doing his easy looking stuff.

Now thats cool!!! Would like to try that...lol.

It would make for an amazing documenatary, riding all the way from London to New York the long way, after crossing the English Channel I think the only other body of water to cross is the Bering Strait (58 Miles)so it is feasable :scooter:If anyone could do it Robbie Madison would be the man for the job just look at some of the amazing riding he has done on youtube. Backflipping tower bridge, ski jumps etc

I don't mean to sound like a spoil sport, but...
I also don't expect any mc rider to understand, but...

Top surfers I know universally HATE the exhibitionist idiot perverting wave riding, their "Sport of Kings". You're wondering "why?" If it has to be explained, you won't understand it. But I'll try.

The short answer is surfing is one thing. Motorcycle riding is another. Siamesed together, do you get a cool, flash, new, hybrid, crossover, blah, blah, sport? Of course not. What you get is NEITHER one thing or the other. And certainly nothing new of interest.

If you haven't put years into surfing, it may be easier to look at it from the point of view of a bike rider, using an exaggerated example. (It's a poor one, but I hope you get the point anyway...)

Imagine some exhibitionist jive ass adding a surfboard to the top of a motorcycle? He can stand on it and, shifting his weight left and right, steer the contraption. To accelerate and brake, he uses a hand control attached by a wire to the motor and brakes below- similar to that used on a "surf jet" or motorized surfboard (also intensely disliked by surfers).

Not hard to imagine, is it? Because it COULD be done. And it WOULD be "different". But does that make it a "really cool idea"? Of course not. An aberration, unworthy of either surfing or motorcycle riding. If you're honest, you know as well as I: Real bikers would HATE it.

Hey, even "better"? Give the rider a hula hoop, flashing lights, a sequined suit and a sound system. "Groovy", huh?

I must confess that I have some sympathy for bobinbahia's view.

BBQMart 27 Sep 2015 17:21

wow!

It must take some skill and courage to do that. The filming is very pro.

bobinbahia 29 Sep 2015 19:00

You're right about one thing:

The filming IS very pro! :-)

bobinbahia 29 Sep 2015 19:13

"What it was intended to be"...(?)

Exhibitionist shoe selling stunt. For the manufacturer that paid for the video.

He is a very good MX rider who likes doing different things on MX bikes, he also did the stunt double for Daniel Craig in the James Bond film Skyfall, the bit where they are riding the bikes on the top of the houses in Istanbul

That was cool. I wouldn't get my panties in a knot about it being a sport though.

Peripatetish 30 Sep 2015 20:14

Are you kidding me?! That is amazing. Added to the bucket list.
