Motorcycle Tests in the EU countries
 

Hi, I'm currently doing a project trying to find out exactly what you have to do when you take your full motorcycle test in all the EU countries (for example, slalom, emergency stop, questions, etc). I've done over half, but can't easily find info on the following countries:

Denmark
Slovenia
Luxembourg
Latvia
Romania
Estonia
Lithuania
Bulgaria
Croatia
Cyprus
Hungary
Malta
Slovakia

Can anyone help? A link to some sort of 'official' website is what I really need, even if that isn't in English.

I also need to know the minimum test vehicle sizes for licence categories A1, A2 and A in:

Lithuania
Latvia
Estonia
Luxembourg
Malta
Norway
Romania
Slovakia
Switzerland
Iceland
Lichtenstein.

Not a small request, but I would be very grateful if any of you can steer me in the right direction (no pun intended). Thank you!!

I can help you with the information in Denmark as I am danish.
Do you only need info on the driving test itself, or also the mandatory lessons you need to take?

The categories here are A1(125cc/11kW/max. 0.1kW/kg), A2(35kW/max. 0.2kW/kg) and A(unlimited). Age restrictions are 18, 20 and 24.

You need to take a written test first, which are 25 questions about traffic mostly. Let me know if you need more information on that.

The physical driving test is 3 parts.
1 part is random questions about the motorcycle. I can only find a danish page: Tveens Køreskole you need to know these rules.
2. part is doing 5 maneuvers. First is walking with bike. Second slalom. Third driving in curve. Fourth emergency stop. Fifth evasive manoeuvre and stop. Official document for this part is here: https://www.politi.dk/NR/rdonlyres/2...lag10_1209.pdf
3. part is driving in traffic for about 25 min.

It starts with a theory exam, which is a version of the car exam, but with moto-specific questions added. (Things like lane positioning, specific hazards, etc.) You can do a sample test in English here: https://paberivaba.ark.ee/ark_demoek...riaeksam?kat=A

Then the practical exam, split into two parts: maneuvering in the authority's parking lot, and riding in the city with an examiner riding behind in a car, talking over radio.

The exam is taken on the examinee or school's own bike (not provided by the authority). Has to be the same category as the license you are seeking: A1 is up to 11kw, over 120cc, and top speed over 90km/h. A2 is 20kw-35kw, over 400cc. Full A-cat is over 180kg, over 50kw, and over 600cc. (I did my A-cat on a Hornet back in the day.)

Examinee must have their own gear: helmet, moto gloves, moto boots (or at minimum boots with good ankle protection), and a jacket and pants with impact armor on the joints.

Step 1 is demonstrating the ability to check that the bike is in working order and safe (tires, brakes, lights, chain, oil level), and putting it on the sidestand.

Step 2 is a mix of maneuvers. Mandatory ones are: walking-pace straight riding, slow slalom, stopping at a preset location, elk test at 30km/h and 50km/h.

Then the examiner may also select two additional maneuvers from a list of six: starting from a hill, U-turn at walking pace, figure eight, entering and exiting a parking space (in my time involved getting off the bike and manually backing it into a space at 90 degrees), riding over an obstacle, and riding through a narrow gate.

Through all of these maneuvers, you are allowed to fail once, in which case you have to repeat the maneuver. A second failure ends the test. Falling, clipping a border, or causing a dangerous situation also ends the test.

Step 3 is a minimum 35-minute street ride. Assessed categories are: bike control, attention and traffic awareness, priority awareness, lane positioning, front and side distance, speed awareness, road sign awareness, turn signaling, and stopping.

If the exam was done successfully, the examinee immediately has the right to operate a motorcycle independently, and can do it within the country while waiting for their new driving license card to arrive.
