MCN interview with overlanders

Here is and interview about overland motorcycle travel with Sam Manicom, Tiffany, Nick Sanders and a few others. For some reason Nick disappears without saying anything, I think he is overwhelmed with Charlie's presence.

I do love how Nick Sanders is staring round the room at the start as if he's never seen a pub before only to disappear never to be seen again.

That said I found it a fascinating snapshot "behind the scenes" of the overland traveler. Having read, watched and listened to the assembled company it was, for me anyway, as much if not more interesting to just hear them talk with each other. By nature I'm probably more interested in why people do things than in what they've done and this was that bit more revealing in its few short minutes.

Having sat in on the strangest of conversations between Austin Vince, Ted Simon, Chris Scott and Ed March one evening at last year's HUBBUK it's something I'd love to see at this year's. Obviously it needs a good host, a role Charley seems to grab from the slightly bored looking man from MCN, and the right mix of guests who can riff off each other to sustain the conversation. It probably needs beer too.

So Sam and Iain... hint, hint.

thanks for posting the link, I haven't had chance to pick up the mag yet :)

I'm not anti-Charlie or LWR, but he seemed to dominate the conversation right at the beginning. Just my personal opinion, but in that room of travellers, he seemed out of his depth. No one else but CB has a back up team. Tiffany mentioned she used to go back-packing before biking & CB's response was to mention his father taking his kids on film sets! Not quite the same. Does he understand how working folk make a living and travel?

I too found it funny that within the first minute CB had mentioned Ewan (famous actor) and his dad (famous director) as his raisons d'etre. But we knew he was a fraud anyway... :blushing: I laughed out loud when he went on about coping with hardship in Mongolia when he found out his prat of a mate Russ Malkin, had rolled the backup car.

Sorry, :offtopic:, but maybe :funmeteryes: or possibly :funmeterno:

I thought that Tiffany, Sam, Nathan and Kevin/ Julia spoke a lot of sense.

Nick walking out during a CB monologue made him go up in my estimation. :thumbup1:
