Maintenance Course

Hi All,

Does anyone here know where I can find somewhere or someone who can teach me how to maintain/fix my bike on the road?

I'm in Kent England and I can't really find anything at all other than college apprentiships.

It depends on what you need to learn? What kind of bike are you driving? It's pretty daunting at first but if you have time and an internet connection you'll be surprised what you can learn.

Changing tires, brake pads, brake discs, filters, plug, changing the oil out, tightening the chain, re-jeting carbs, stripping the bike for cleaning and making the normal adjustments is fairly easy to pick up.

Basically that's all I need to tour with on a newish Japanese single anyway and besides, for anything more serious you likely wouldn't have the tools for when touring.

There is also Dans' mc course.

Similar requests/ideas have come up in the past here, but came to nought, apparently.

Hi
If your willing to ride into London, check out on the internet the OMC Oval Motorcycle Centre Motorcycle DIY workshop, maintenance, service, repair and training workshop

Where you can work on your own bike with a fully qualified supervisor Matt, who has all the knowledge to step in and show you what to do.

Used them to Prep my own bike for a RTW.

And, if you dig into their website, you will find that they run motorcycle maintenance courses.

I don't know where you are in Kent but there's a course in Hackney starting next week.

Wildman 7 Sep 2015 10:02

There's a complete beginners option too.

Thanks very much everyone.

I suggest getting the maintenance manual. That will give guided step-by-step instructions for whatever you intend to do. I own a F650GS and there is a website dedicated to owners of that bike with all kinds of maintenance information. I suggest you search and see if such a website exists for your motorcycle. I also found Youtube videos to be a great resource also. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth a million. Cheers!

Many donot have any mechanical background at all before they buy a bike, courses are a way of starting out right rather than word of mouth.
