Goodbye career hello world

Okay, so while no one out there is probably the least bit interested I needed to shout - I HAVE JUST HANDED MY NOTICE IN! Yippeeeeeeeee. And god wasnt it the most nerve-wracking experience of my life.

I have just started the countdown to ending my career as a lawyer before heading off round the world on my motorbike. Not many people get it, not many of my friends get it - giving up a successful career for years on the road - so I needed to shout it on it on here.

Whoop whoop!

Alexlebrit 11 Feb 2009 16:58

We get it, or we wouldn't be here I guess.

:scooter:

Linzi 11 Feb 2009 17:02

Congratulations! It is a decision that you agonize over beforehand but once you leave and are at a time and place that allows you to look back at your previous "life" with clarity, you immediately recognie the wisdom of your ways and wonder why you hadn't done it earlier:)

Oh, what joy!

STG06 12 Feb 2009 17:34

Career?

Victor Frankl said ... Man does not simply exist, but always decides what his existence will be, what he will become in the next moment.

Maybe you really haven't given up your career, but taken the step to start another.

That choice is worth all the celebrating you can put into it!

As for me, indecision used to be my problem. Now, I'm not so sure.

Best wishes on your journey.

mollydog 12 Feb 2009 18:43

Free garage space/tools in San Fran area if you ever get on this side of the pond.

Outstanding, and a message that inspires both hope and jealousy. Congratulations on the next phase and I am looking forward to my turn to post the same.

Charlotte Goose 15 Feb 2009 13:14

Whooooo hoooooooo

Bloody amazing! Thanks everyone for all your kind words. I cant describe how excitingly surreal it all seems.

I hope to meet up with lots of you on my travels - it would be fabulous - and probably requisite considering the words postage stamp springs to mind when I think about my motorbike knowledge! I will be away for as long as my money lasts, maybe 2 years - the Americas first, then Africa then India, then back home (or not).

See you all on the road!!

Hi Charlotte

We met last year in Somerset in the middle of a field drinking cider. Great to hear that you took the plunge. Take it from an oldie, you will never regret your decision. Don't lose touch with the site and make sure you let us all know how you get on.

Love Martin xx

KTMmartin 15 Feb 2009 19:14

Congrats Charlotte,

Don't forget the pepper grinder and spice rack.

Cheers,
Martin

Dazzerrtw 15 Feb 2009 19:59

Well Done.

Live your Dream :mchappy:

Warthog 15 Feb 2009 20:21

Good for you, Charlotte.

I did the same when we went to S. America. Only for 3 months mind, but handing over that letter finally made it feel concrete.

Finally, it was actually happening even if I had a notice period as long as my planned trip!!

Up until that point it's only been routes, itineraries, spreadsheets and saving, but that notice is the first actual step toward packing your panniers and starting the bike on the big day!!

...and frankly I sickeningly jealous!!

monsieur 16 Feb 2009 08:37

Charlotte
You're doing what many of us 'older' folk keep as one of th'eir 'if only' dreams. Mortgages, children still at home, credit card bills and the routine of life' take their toll on such dreams. My own children will still be at home for at least ten years from now and I'm still 18 years off retirement and still the same left on the mortgage so take the chance when it arises.
I sound like some old codger now - what I'm trying to say is...listen to your heart more than your head. If it feels right - do it!
Keep in touch with us all and post loads of photos!
Bon voyage!!
