Well, if you do go, beware 'Brexit checks' and do make sure your paperwork is in order- it's 'opportunity knocks' to fine you on Ze Spot for these chaps...

Insurance docs
Driving licence
Light bulb kit
Red triangle
If vehicle has spare tyre then all tools to swop over and tyre must be within usage limits.
Proof of means (they check that now apparently)
First aid kit
Fresh camembert and saucisson but don't be tempted to have opened red wine in the car!

Dont need Green Cards since the 2nd August :thumbup1:, But apparently taking meat or dairy products is not allowed.

BUT

You are allowed to take a 20kg Fish

So, it’s all the usual stuff plus a fish then? Not one of the changes I thought Brexit would bring but, hey ho, whatever it takes.

In addition to the excellent list provided by Toyark, might it be necessary to put some tape or some kind of specialty lens over the (UK specification left hand drive) headlight to prevent blinding other drivers when riding on the right hand side of the road?

Also be aware that France has some unusual rules about GPS devices that identify speed camera locations. It is not permitted to have the GPS device identify the precise location of the camera, but it is permitted to have the device identify a "safety zone" which is a general area that the camera is located in. Most GPS devices allow you to switch over from precise to safety zone within the GPD device itself, but some require that you re-load your camera database and specify "safety zone" when loading.

The ferry companies (I assume it's them) are pushing all this stuff as hard as they can. When you're in the queue waiting for the ferry to load there's sales people walking up and down the lines, knocking on your car window and 'helpfully' explaining that you must have this stuff to be legal in France, 'and you wouldn't want to be illegal over there would you, sir'. Strangely they never offer it to me when I'm on a bike. Whether bikers are less gullible or better prepared I'm not sure. They must have made a fortune selling overpriced alcotesters a few years back but they seem to have gone out of favour now.

I once watched an elderly lady buy some headlamp deflectors from them while she was in the queue and then try to fit them to her headlamps. Despite the instructions she couldn't work out what she was supposed to do. Ten minutes later the same salesperson came back down the next row so she asked him how to fit them. 'No idea' was the reply as he walked off to the next car.

I seem to vaguely remember using some commercial beam deflector things in the dim and distant past, then it became some carefully positioned black tape and then (for the last 40yrs at least) nothing at all. I don't get flashed and nobody has been interested or bothered.

I noticed a while back that my TomTom sat nav had 'modified' its French speed camera location data after an update. It used to give the exact locations as in the UK, but now it only gives you a general warning that's accurate to about 5km and the locations on the screen seem to drift around that 5km zone at random when compared to the actual location. It didn't matter for a while after the Gillets Jaune's had done their stuff but they're now being replaced. The roadside warning signs are probably more accurate than the sat nav info. Usually they're within a kilometre or two of the camera.

I read somewhere that they have an aversion to longbows but I just keep my arrows locked in a separate case and they seem happy with that.
