First bike, first ride, first crash

Well my old man found a nice old Funduro for £900 quid so I tootled up to Birmingham to pick it up and take it home, thought I'd go for a quick spin managed almost 20 miles:mchappy: and then a car wiped me out from behind at a roundabout and its now busted :(. Usual story I was waiting a car was indicating left so I started to go, it didnt turn I stopped, still behind the line, and the car behind didnt.

welcome to the club

hey anagallis_arvensis, not nice is it? one minute sitting happily on your bike then next minute upside down in front of a car tyre!. I hope this does not put you of motorcycles, my first crash was within a couple of weeks; I went into the side of a parked freelander in 'Barnes Wallis' style. It took me a while to get back on two wheels but two years on I have never looked back.

Either way Im glad your not broken yourself:thumbup1:

Chin up, as long as you're ok the bike will mend

anagallis_arvensis 29 Aug 2009 11:16

Well it still runs, the old man was brave, stupid, experienced (delete as appropriate) enough to ride it the few miles home handlebars bent, centre stand bent, back light and both rear indicators bust and a scuffed exhust shield. Have to wait till after bank holiday to get it to a garage and properly checked over. The non drive side wheel bolt seems to have taken the main impact so hopefully the swing arm etc is OK.:funmeterno:

Hi, dude!

I'm sorry for what happened to you, but I'm sure that you and the bike will be on the road again very soon. :scooter:

Greetings from Italy.

I was hit from the rear on my Honda CG125 earlier this year. Very irritating.

Take heart in the fact that you are OK and the insurance settlement from a straight forward 3rd. party to blame incident, will make you smile :)

Bought my CG for £320, and settled on £2,300 overall. It took 6 months to sort out mind. That was claiming very little with injuries that were gone after a week.

I'm getting £10 a day loss of use, which they offered when I said I didnt need a hire car/bike and I "noticed" a scuff on my jacket which they will cover. I had no injuries so no need to worry about that. MAkes you see why insurance is so much though as I could mile them for loads if I tried, wouldnt seem right though.

Good on you. Far too many immoral people claiming for injuries they didn't sustain, pushing up the premiums for everyone.

So bike has been written off, offered £1000 or £700 and bike, if I repair the bike and leave a few of the more cosmetic bits out I can repair it quite cheaply, but does nayone know what the implications are for my insurance of the bike being written off? Do I need to get it MOTd again or anything and do I have to inform my insurance?
