DRZ400S STOLEN in Budapest

I've only been in the country 2 days and my RTW bike was stolen from a closed courtyard in the early hours of October 9th.

The bike is a 2006 Suzuki DRZ400S, Blue with black safari tank and top box. Bike is registered in Victoria, Australia - plate number FU077.

Column was locked so they would have had to carry it out through the apartment foyer. There was no luggage on the bike at the time.

Please keep your eyes and ear open. It's the end of my overland trip from Australia if I don't get it back.

If anyone hears anything, please contact me.

Shiiiit buddy, that sucks

Give it a couple of days, but don't die trying to be a hero.
Hope it turns up soon Tim

That is awful.

All I can say is I know how it feels - mine was stolen in the UK 9 months ago. The good news was I got it back. I contacted every paper, TV news station, social media, bike shop etc I could think of and it seems I made enough noise that it was dumped after a week. So there is hope, though I understand from your perspective at the moment things won't look good. Keep positive.

Really gutted for you.

I've cross-posted this on the Advrider Europe section at Australian DRZ stolen in Budapest, Hungary - ADVrider

Stearing (column) locks are really easy and quick to break on most bikes, particularly so on a DRZ. Sadly, the only thing easier than breaking a stearing lock on a DRZ is hot-wiring it without a key :( The thieves will have wheeled it out of the foyer and ridden it away.

No, I'm not a bike thief... Yes, I've had my garage burgled and bikes stolen. I know how you must feel.

The advice above of getting the word out is really good. You must do it NOW. Time is of the essence.

Hang in there. Good luck with getting it back.

Shit.

Hello there,

sorry to read this.

As been said above. Get the media involved, maybe even a local tv station and a nation wide newspaper. Put it up on fakebook and ask people to share it with there friends. Post it on bike forums ... just spend a night on the internet and run around town in daytime. Go to the police with somebody that speaks Hungarian. Print out the photos and have them ready to show to people. If people ask about the price of the bike, just say its not about the money, its about your trip of a lifetime and explain it to them in a way that they understand the bike has a very high value to you.

I had my bike stolen in Damaskus in 2010, but I could only get very limited media coverage in Syria. I spend a month trying to get it back ... which is another story.

I will send the link to this to some friends I have in Eastern Europe.

Good luck

Greetings from Finland
mika

DRZ400S STOLEN in Budapest

No new developments on the bike I'm afraid.

Getting some decent coverage on social media but if anyone has contacts at a Hungarian news or radio station, please get in contact with me.

My hope is to raise awareness enough that the bike is abandoned somewhere and found.

All the support is greatly appreciated. It's renewing my faith in people the way bikers are coming together to express their sympathies

Cheers,

Here's the link to my public facebook page. There are more pictures and it should be more reliable

and here's a few more

The 28 litre safari tank is pretty distinctive. As is the black topbox and renthal bars.

Also, worth noting that the windshield was smashed off in a crash in India. I'm afraid I don't have any good recent photos.

Thanks for the help

This is just so heartbreaking...really hope you get it back very soon.

Kayjay 13 Oct 2014 03:24

Its sad. I have a feeling you will get the bike back soon. Pray for your bike n you. I would be shattered, but dont give up.

TGS 13 Oct 2014 13:24

Thank you all for the continued support.

I am getting no help from the police at present although I have managed to get myself in the news to get the word out.

I'm still hoping it hasn't been destroyed for parts and it turns up. Either way I will push on with the trip even if I finish it on a bicycle

Hope Charley's karma helps get your bike back

JustMe 17 Oct 2014 21:13

What a shame. Since this happened some days ago, has anyone locally set up anything like a support fund for you? 300 people with a tenner each should get you on another DRZ (since luckily you got your luggage) and if someone sets something up, I´m certainly good for 10 €.
Cheers
Chris

Will your insurance cover the loss and maybe a bit of the mods?
Anyone have a replacement bike for this man to continue his journey?
Or maybe someone has a bike that needs to be delivered along the way, anyone?
