Buying UK registered vehicle in Africa?
 

I have been searching but I have yet to find a reliable source to tell me how this would work. So if anyone has done it I would appreciate your feedback. I am thinking of buying a Vehicle that is registered in the UK but is in Africa already with a Carnet. What would the process be like? How to i receive the Title? Is it possible for me to buy it and keep it UK registered even though I am not a UK resident?

I think this is not easy or even possible mostly because of the carnet, you would have get another in your name and get the original stamped out and the new one stamped in, they are not transferable.
You do not say what your nationality is but an EU citizen should not have a problem registering a UK vehicle in your name if you have an address in the UK you can use and you would need to do this before applying for a carnet.

What if the owner sold it to me then drove with me out of the country and stamped out his carnet but then I buy a new carnet that I use to stamp it in to the next country?

Thanks for the link. But how do I go about changing the title on the truck? Am I able to just to change the UK reg to my name?

I might be wrong but as far as I know there is no problem with foreigners owning a vehicle in the UK but you will need an address to register it at. The owner should have the registration document which you will need to fill in as the new keeper, send to the DVLA in the UK at the address given on the document and a new document in your name will be sent to that address in about a fortnight.
Before doing any of this look into getting a carnet, the RAC no longer issue them and UK registered vehicles have to get them from the ADAC in Germany, look at cost and feasability first before doing anything else.
The seller ought to be aware he might have a problem getting his deposit back if he returns to the UK without the vehicle which should be stamped back by UK customs, this is not always enforced by the carnet issuer but can be.

OK Thank you that is good news if it is true. I have a friend in UK and I could use their address. I will find out about possibility of getting a carnet from different countries for a UK reg vehicle.
