Accommodation ~ Winter in South Spain

G’Day

Am totally fed up with another Cold, Wet, Dark, miserable UK winter.

Anyone know of a decent place in South Spain to hole up, from December to late March 2016.
Preferably close to the Sea and a Marina. :scooter:

In Spring of '16 I’ll be taking my small Yacht into the French Canals

Cheers AB Yamaha FJR 1300R

Take your pick really...
Most will do a deal if you stay a month or more..usually about 240 Euros per month.
Cheaper to spend that cash and head for Maroc...Camping along the West coast. Usually 4 Euros per night. = 120 Euros per month..plus its warmer. Spain can be cold Jan Feb.
We stayed in Crete over winter and had great weather and a new apartment with everything WiFi etc for 240 Euros per month..in Paleochore in the south. Heaven if you hate winter.

I´d recommend a stay in Tarifa with the option to jump over to Morocco, if weather will be too winterish. But northern Morocco can have plenty of rain in winter as well.

A german surf dude called Stefan ( info@funsport-tarifa.com ) does rent out his own accommodations as well as those from others. Known as pretty cheap, basic but clean rooms, condos and houses. Prices seem to be negotiable for long stayers - especially in the low-season. If you´re really "on a budget", ask him to share one house with other travelers.

Right in the middle of the old town is a Ho(s)tel (an old church/monastery run by Endo, search for "El Beateiro, Tarifa"). Great place, warm welcome, nice rooms and awesome views of Africa from the roof terrace. You may park your bike in his garage at the main road - 2min walk.

Plenty of bars/pubs in Tarifa. Ask the stuff for places to stay. Nearly e´one knows
s´one with an empty house in the hills. Many offer safe garage storage for windsurf equipment, will fit your bike as well.

Edit: wild camping in a small forest next to Hotel Dos Mares, 5km west. Seems Tonka meant the little huts next to beach bar Tangana/Las Dunas, apron. 9km west.
Nice day tours northwards.

Enjoy

Kino Bay, Mexico

Great idea Andy, go for it!!!! We did the same but in another continent. We are in beautiful, sunny and warm Kino Bay, Mexico, having left behind for few months snowy Flagstaff, Arizona. Let us know how you do...!

Andalucia is the mildest part of Spain for the winter months so long as you are not at altitude.

As with the UK the prevailing wind is from the west and the area closest to the Atlantic gets more rain and cloud in winter than eastern Andalucia. I'd be looking in the region between Motril and Cartegena. Almería is reckoned to be one of the warmest, sunniest and driest places in Europe.

Some friends who live at 1000m in the Granada Altiplano (cold at altitude) have rented a two bedroom flat in Mojácar (between Almería and Cartegena) for 100€ per week for Dec/Jan. There's no shortage of lets available.

The weather in Spain is currently as unseasonably warm as in the UK and is likely caused by El Nińo moving the jet stream north. If it follows previous oscillations the weather in Feb could be dire so a good time to be out of the UK.

The Cabo de Gata area is certainly beautiful. Your links were pointing to a PAGE containing the photos, rather than to the photos themselves, so I've changed, for example,

Code:

TO

You get to the actual photo by right clicking and 'open image in new window'

Thanks Tim,

I just copy the link to insert the pic. But seems that i should had to do another click more on the image, an then copy the route. You have choosen great pics, to ilustrate the area.
