Storage inside false tail pipe.

I couldn't find another thread regarding this so here goes......

I absolutely LOVE bike designs with high twin tail pipes, rather like the G650GS has. Unfortunately these are almost extinct now in favour of a single side mounted pipe on the end of a 2 into 1 (or even 4 into 1) exhaust pipe.

Now I'm completely aware of the facts regarding high centre of gravity; exhaust gas flow; and of course COST, but it doesn't change my opinion that having a huge great silencer (muffler) on just the right side or left side of the bike just looks unbalanced!

So, I started thinking about adding a false matching silencer on the other side, but rather than just having an empty tube, make it useful for either extra fuel or water.
My idea is to have a removable end cap (which exactly mimics the real exhaust on the other side), and then to utilise a slide-in water bottle or fuel container. I'd even have a false pipe from the front end bending under the seat into the shadows.
The final design would need to look like a factory fitted twin exhaust system.

However as most modern silencers are rarely circular, this begged the question of how to make it. If the real one was round I could just go and buy a length of plastic tubing, but as they are usually oval, I'm thinking of taking a mould from the real one and making the fake one from glassfibre.

Has anybody any experience with making a false silencer for use as storage? I've trolled the internet and can't find anything.
Any thoughts or comments (good or bad) would be appreciated.

Incidentally, I'm in the process of buying my new ADV bike. A choice between V-Strom650 and Africa Twin, so at the moment my enquiry isn't bike-specific.
Thanks.

Some have been used for tool kit, parts - solves the problem of not being round.

Some have used an old muffler from a wrecked bike to make the second false muffler. For preference chose a stainless one so it won't rust.

Hi and thanks for your response.
Unfortunately due to my location I can confidently say that there is ZERO chance of finding a similar silencer from a 'wrecked' bike, as I'd almost certainly posses the ONLY bike of this type in my entire province, hence my idea of taking a mould from the other side and making from glassfibre.

Yep.... exactly the idea I had in mind (so annoying when you think of what you think is a fab idea....only to discover that somebody beat you to it!), but I'd need to fabricate the entire left side to match the current standard stock RH side.

I'll create some photoshopped images to illustrate my idea. You never know, if it is successful maybe I can supply to others :-)

Haha, yes it is beautiful: basically 1 paved road north-to-south, and just about everything else is gravel and sand , hence the need for an ADV bike.
