Rear wheel size?!?

Sorry if this is obvious to others, but are there any benefits to having an 18" rear wheel over a 17"? I can find different availability of tyres (for example, the MEFO range is 18 and not 17), but are there any benefits / disadvantages? I'm considering a change of bike, and the potential new one has an 18" rear.

Thank in advance for the enlightenment! :thumbup1:

Same benefit as having a 21" over a 17" on the front.

Less bumpy ride. The wheel rolls over the bumps rather than falling into them.

If you know what I mean.

Like you said, most of the best 'proper' adventure tyres are more readily available in 18" too although this is changing quickly as Adventure bikes are taking up more and more of the market.

I thought it might have something to do with smoother rolling. With it being nearer to the 21 front, does this also (slightly) change / improve the characteristics on road?
